You should look at TinyXP Beast Edition it the best for systems used just for games
Windows Performance Info... Operating System RAM Memory Usage = 42Mb WINDOWS Folder = 321.6 Mb Running Processes on First Install = 13 Install Time for Windows = Seven Minutes
"This special 'Beast Edition' of TinyXP is designed to be hell fast!
Internet Explorer and Outlook Express have been removed from this edition. Mozilla Firefox web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird email client are included as replacements to Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. The latest edition of MSN Messenger (v7.5) is also installed.
This edition of TinyXP includes Ethernet LAN drivers, Microsoft Sidewinder drivers and Sound Controller drivers. All keyboard layouts are included. All languages have been removed apart from United Kingdom. The default Luna theme has been removed, but this edition includes the XP Amp theme as default.
Most of the networking features are removed from this edition, this is because this edition is intended as a gaming edition that you can surf the internet with. It is NOT intended as an operating system for use in a corporate environment to squeeze a little bit more production out of the poor employees, however, MS Mail and MAPI are included for compatibility. Also kept - 16Bit Support, Disk Cleanup, the "core" of Internet Explorer, Task Scheduler and you are still able to open ZIP files without the need for any any third party program.
Services left remaining are: DHCP, DNS Client, Event Log, IAS, Network Provisioning, Performance Logs and Alerts, Secondary Logon, Shell Services, System Event Notification, Uninterruptible Power Supply Universal Plug and Play, Windows Management Instrumentation, Windows Time and Wireless Zero Configuration.
This edition also includes Wireless LAN and there is also support for use on laptops. On this edition of TinyXP there are no minimum RAM or hard disk space requirements."
Tinyxp is missing so many features (you cant even ping something, lol), you will run back to normal XP after a few hours or days. and it's not that faster, you can get almost the same performance by disabling some services and the luna theme in XP.
TinyXP is missing certain things as #7 pointed out, but for him to state that it is not that faster is a downright lie. It uses less resources, alot less, starts off with around 13 processes after initial install, (Depends on the version you utilize.) among many other things. So saying its not faster is like saying a porche isnt faster than a beetle.
Now once you start installing certain things, your Windows folder will grow in size, depending on what you install, processes after installation may increase or more things will try to startup with your PC, such as Virus scanners or firewalls. (Of course AV's and FW's.) Itself it runs fast, even after done installing things it still runs fast. (Currently using my own made version from my XP Pro CD on my 5 year old laptop, brought it back to life seriously.)
The fact of the matter is these are XP versions stripped of supposed unnecessary things, if you would like to create your own version, download the guide and utilize your very own Windows XP CD, this way you keep what you wish to use and do not end up being disappointed.
#7 Depends on the version you use, the BEAST edition is the only one ive come accross which has stripped ping and ipconfig as well as many more features, this is because its design soley for games and browsing the web, nothing else.
If you want a lite version of windows which still has all the XP basic stuff use TinyXP Rev3
#15 Yes you can. TinyXP Rev3 was the one with most of the useful stuff included, if you have an error it will come from a specific dll file, in which you just need to go to dll-files.com download it and place it to its respective folder. (Usually system32.)
I used BT on Rev3 and Rev4, never got around to trying beast edition, no need for me nonetheless.
windows xp lite has the functionality of xp pro coporate edition. you wont need to register it with M$. a problem however is windows media player is not included with it. making it impossible to play videos on websites, it cannot be installed either. you need a special patch which is floating around the internet somewhere.
I'm not sure why anyone needs a lite verson or a tinyxp. unless it's used for different platforms... but it's an old OS (in OS years)... XP should be enough for any modern computer.

#19, you've never tried xp lite so dont say anything. to play embeded wmv, asf, asx, avi etc videos on your web browser, you do need windows media player installed kthxbye
You guys can easily change the windows themes with other visual styles with ux theme patcher and some visual theme files found at deviantart.com fyi. Ive been using corp edition for about 10 months on this current install. I love it. I don't mind it being stripped down,if you use autopatcher to update, dont go farther than june or else you'll get the update that will recognize your corp edition, and will tell you everytime you boot at your welcome screen that this version of windows is counterfeit.
So if i install this Beast tinyXP will all my stuff on my HDD still be there? or will it be like a new windows install? or will Beast TinyXP just delete files i never heard about or use anyway.
HEY PEOPLE if u want a reduced XP try XP PRO calamari.... not as reduced but for all you noobs complainin about pinging things check it out its on the torrentz
I loaded TinyXP rev. 05 onto a Compaq Pentium III and got requests for drivers for all the hardware on the computer. TinyXP had none of the drivers. So, I could not use TinyXP rev. 05. I am disappointed. TinyXP did not load unattended and really became a problem for me. What version of TinyXP or Tiny2003 or TinyXP Ultimate, TinyXP Vista, etc. should I use if I want the system components matched up with drivers whenever I put the loaded disk into any computer? I also want Internet Explorer although I use Mozilla FF much of the time. I have read material on the TinyXP Experience products and would like to join the revolution sticking it to M$. However, I have found the TinyXP products so confusing that I just might go back to the Windows XP Corporate Edition because that loaded easily with little attention. Whenever I have sought info on TinyXP products, I am told not to ask questions about downloaded software in the very Forums where my questions should be answered. I have also been ridiculed and treated rudely for not knowing enough about some of the most complicated program stuff out there. I thought most of us were in this together. I DO know a lot about computers. However, I cannot know everything about computers. Would appreciate any help. I am dedicating one computer for Gaming and another for general Internet use, IM, and storing downloads. I think I will stick with XP Corporate and just tweak it. Still, any ideas appreciated. Regards, diowrite
diowrite, I see that you put a lot of energy in this and its a shame it didnt work well, but as freeAgent pointed out, www.nliteos.com is the way to go if you have spare time... You can select yourselft what to include and what to remove, and you can even add your own drivers in the cd so you wont have to download them after.
I am grateful that many responded to my posting #32. Thank you all. I have spent much time studying the TinyXP stuff. I think that guy, eXPerience, is a crusader, a visionary. I do not have the time to design a custom OS using nLite but I wish I did. I have the downloaded guide to using nLite to shrink Windows OS. Seems pretty straightforward. Open Source anyone?
On the topic of performance boosting: I realize it would be foolish to delete the system32 folder. I hope someone does not try it. Egads! You would wipe out your printing abilities, defrag, and many other critical things. All this is obvious to you smart folks out there. Perhaps not funny to joke about such an action.

search around google... www.tweakxp.com is a good site too...and there are MANY windows xp tweaking programs out that work wonders too
Advanced System Optimizer (ASO) works well for me
btw your best friends are msconfig and services.msc

#21, luna is the default theme of windows xp
Another good program is XP Smoker Pro. Powerful enough for the savvy, simple enough for the uninitiated.
