I got a 1.1a and I really like the mouse but the looks of the 1.1se are obviously better. I wonder if there is any way how u can make the 1.1a feel like a 1.1se.
It's too hard and expensive to just buy a 1.1se and I heard ppl modding the 1.1a to 1.1se so it should be possible
#4 As you see "in the goods picture" on the bottom there is three different 'sand papers' which are used to grind the mouse allowing for a smooth feel and look and it also takes out the old paint. They probably have different grits. Grits is how hard the paper. The harder the more it grinds. For a mouse you only probably need basic sandpaper. Sanding is done by rubbing the mouse with the sandpaper in the same direction back and forth.
I actually read a review on sk-gaming and tried it on my microsoft intellimouse 1.1 to make it into a special edition. It is quite simple you take a cloth, something that won't fall apart, but will absorb acetone or nail remover and then you start rubbing away at the mouse. It will take about 30-60 minutes to get it right and when your done your mouse will be removed of all the bumps and will be left with a special edition glossy shine. The side effects are that you might melts your mouse buttons together or your side buttons do to the potency of the chemicals but thats why you put tape over the parts you don't want shined and do this in an open area, not in your room or else you will lose brain cells. Also don't use napkins it will fall apart and stick onto your mouse and then you will be screwed. So if you take all these precautions you will have a mouse better than the special edition, at least more glossy.
I used this blog as a guide for changing my 1.1. I took it apart and used a very fine sandpaper to grind it down. I then used a yellow fluorescent to give three coats. It was about 90 degrees Fahrenheit that day and very sunny, so I let every piece dry for about 20 minutes. I used a black spray paint for the side buttons. I then used two coats of gloss for ALL pieces and well, I am quite satisfied with the result. Mine looks identical to the one in the blog. I just wished I let it dry for another day and gave an extra coat of gloss.
But when I was taking off the mouse feet, I accidentally cut one. To solve this problem, I just put a piece of tape over all the feet :D
#15 I beleive the mice arent painted their colors originally. its the color of the plastic so if you were to sand down a black it would still be black so using a darker color would work better but if you use a primer you still be be able to use lighter colors. www.hardforum.com has good guides on painting or ust ask around their forums.
i tried to take my 1.1 apart and the shell part under the mouse5 wont go back but i like it cuz it holds my pinky and ring finger out so i dont accidently press mouse5. i tried to take mouse buttons off and my mouse 1 broke. so i taped it back on lol. im gonna do #8's method now woot woot.
Haha removing the shell is much easier than you might think. First, you take of the feet in the back of the mouse (just the two of them, no need for those two in front). Then you screw the screws out, and pushes the sheel forward, while holding the buttom of the mouse. Gently, the shell will kind of click of. Inside, there is two parts screwed together. Just screw them out ofc. Then the most difficult parts come.. getting those two parts from each other. They are hooked, by small plastic bits, which you must bend to the side (all three of them), while softly pulling them apart. Dont brake anything.
I know. I guess I could just make another one, but I don't have that much time to devote to it. Also, I think they stopped making the original "pre-modded" version back in '91. So it'd be hard to find anyway. Plus, they're probably really exspensive nowadays because of their antiquity and badass features like: 3 BUTTONS!!! LITTLE RUBBER BALL INSIDE!!! this blog kinda tells how but not very detailed:

Would it be enough to just grind the shell? Or do you need to put on another layer to make it smoother and more shiny?

=D
And how can u remove the shell? Can u just click it off or something like that??
Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys :D
#15 dont ruin a black 1.1a, they are somewhat rare - try selling it on ebay.
edit: oh, and btw - nothing you do to a 1.1a can make it feel exactly like an original 1.1SE.

help on the shell removal please.
I just like the looks and feel of the 1.1se and Im not willing to pay over 100 bucks for a 1.1se which might even be fake.
Now go back to Flash, Cinema 4D, Photoshop, Dreamweaver (HTML), Vegas and Soundforge, geek

They have some good tips for modding in their website !
I just taped the parts I didnt want to change (the space between buttons and body and stuff).
Nail varnish remover on a towel and then looots of wiping :D
h0lms make a guide kekeke :D
The mouse feet are adhesive enough to go back on without any problems. I took mine off and kept them off for 12 hours, they went back on easily :)

Good link/tutorial though.

Pic I took with my cell phone a few nights ago.
I was inspired by this post, so I modified my mouse as cheaply as possible.
