I have recently had this problem where my computer would take at lest a good hour or so to turn back on.

At first, It would take at lest 3 good trys for it to start up. But before Windows XP start's up I would have this process where the screen is black and theres this this "blinking line". It would blink for at lest 2 seconds then Windows XP would successfully starts up (that's how my computer normaly starts up).

But now the screen would be black and the line would just blink for hours and hours and there isnt hope what so ever. I know this sound REALLY confusing but are there any suggestions at all?

Heres what the "blinking line process looks like:

And here are my specs:
Intel Pentium 4 w/ HT 2.6 GHz
1 GB of DDR RAM
Windows Xp Professional
and a horrible Geforce 4 MX 440 64 mb (I have a 256 MB x1300 pro on my other computer but this one has a 250watt power supply :( )

PLEASE HELP ME IM NICE IRL! :)

That doesnt sound good. Sounds like it might be time to reformat.

Try using a windows xp install cd first, and see if reinstalling windows over the other copy fixes it.

Can you boot up in to safe mode?

No, dont use vista, why would you "buy" a OS you arent even familiar with, and your system is not meant for vista you dont have the hardware to run it. "buy" xp.

Well you have to reboot, the good thing is the windows install disc will be accessed before the blinking light, as is safe mode.

If you set your cd drive to be the first boot option, then it will auto load a xp install cd right after the bios. If you push f8 as you start up, you should get to the windows advanced start up options, and then you can see if safe mode makes a difference.

i agree w/ #14

I had a old, white Dell XPS do that. We never could figure out why it would hang on the white, blinking line thing.
