There's been some talk in different threads on both these forums and others in different personal reviews of headsets, and it seems the AD700s do provide a little better sound quality over the HD555s. However, one thing I am taking into consideration between which I buy is the appeal and size of them. I have read that the AD700s are rather large, and while the HD555s are a pretty decent size, I was wondering how much larger the AD700s may be. As such, can anybody that has a pair of AD700s take some pictures of them?
Also, is there anybody here that has had the opportunity to test the two and could account for which they felt sounded better? Like I said, I'm leaning towards the AD700s but still have the HD555s in heavy consideration.. I'm basically on the fence atm.
i disagree i have had both here in the past week, and the AD700s definitely sound better in games and music and movies, its just a clearer audio presentation, more distinct sounds, etc.
the hds do have more bass, if thats a concern, but not by much, and neither are known for their kick.
Yeah, I know both aren't too high on the bass and are primarily good for classical/jazz type music. Would I be disappointed with the level of bass with alternative rock and techno though? I'd like there to be at least a noticeable amount of bass, but not heavy bumping or anything.
Also, while online pictures are great with what is advertised on each site, if possible I'd like a picture of them on someone's desk to kind of see them in relation to other objects that can be used to judge their size.
thats the same thing orth told me, but I havent used the a700. just the ad700. i cant stand closed headphones, so it wasnt a choice which to get for me.
there is a noticeable amount of bass, its just not overdone.
I'm not particularly keen on the look of the AD700s as I do like the more simplistic design of the HD555s.. but what matters most is the quality, and those who have used both the AD700 and HD555s have seemed to prefer the sound of the AD700s more. So, unless there's additional information to be said, looks like AD700s it is!
i totally agree, i only wish they're was something that looks like the HD5xx series, but with the sound capabilities of AD700's, i'd buy them for sure!
Yep, AD700's :). I'm extremely happy with my AD700's that I got from Amazon a few weeks ago (upgraded from Plantronics .Audio 370 although I have used my brother's pair of HD555's before). Although I feel there could be a bit more bass, I'm currently burning them in so that the sound quality (I hope/believe) will be even better. Thanks to a few people (orth, Roger, and a few others) here, I read up a few posts over at Head-Fi.
Anyway Cypher, if you plan on getting a pair of AD700's
off Amazon.com within the next two weeks -- I currently have a 1 month trial of Amazon Prime that expires on the 14th of November. I have exactly one invite left for "family," but since I've already invited the people that wanted them, I could easily give it to someone here. And if you didn't know, Amazon Prime gives you FREE 2 day shipping ;).

The thing about the AD700's that a lot of people do not mention is that they are "classic" headphones, they sound better with music that doesn't require a strong bass presentation. But, they are some of the best headphones on the market pricewise, and having heard both, I really have to say the AD700's are the better headphone. I'm not taking anything away from the Sennheisers, of course, it's just that Audio Technica really does make excellent headphones, they're just not widely known like Senn is.
I don't buy the 555 is much better then the 700 or vise versa.. They retail for about the same price.. Each have their pro's & cons.. & it comes down to personal preference..

/lock thread
are you sure ?
how do they feel ?
i was looking at the ATH-A700 aswell.
i already have the 5xx series of Sennheiser.
so you don't recommend them over the HD555 for gaming ?
i have had both here in the past week, and the AD700s definitely sound better in games and music and movies, its just a clearer audio presentation, more distinct sounds, etc.

are AD700 and A700 sound the same.
many people on forums around say that A700 (the clsoed ones) don't sound as good as the open ones (AD700).
there is a noticeable amount of bass, its just not overdone.
a700s are nothing like the ad700s(soundstage diff is huge), ive used both, and sold my a700s
i upgraded from hd555s to the ad700s, well worth it.
and yes i agree with slapnuts, the hd555s had a bit more bass, but i still prefer the ad700s bass.

AD700 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
and you would be crazy not to get them over the hd555s for $5 more!
"classic headphones", they sound good in that style of music yea, but i have no regrets using them with At the Gates, In Flames, Machine Head, etc
i have a 12" sub, and some 2.1 speakers for bass.
Also, these absolutely crap all over computer speakers when it comes to a powerful sound:

I use the three clips, and I cut up some black twist ties and wrapped them every 2" or so along my ad700 cord.
