I used to have Vista on my comp since it's beta days. Formatted and put XP on it since it was so buggy. Then I ended up dual-booting 2 months ago (with XP on one partition and Vista on the other) the XP partition was the one being used 99.3 percent of the time. 2 months later: I decided to not waste partition space on my hard drive and went back to having one operating system on my drive, you guessed it, it was Windows XP. Vista is nice and all, but you will end up getting tired with the compatibility issues with some devices, like printers. Furthermore, UAC is just plain annoying, (It definitely let's you know when an application, whether unknown or known, is accessing your critical system files, or program files; BUT most of the time it's useless considering that almost every application you run, will access some files in your program files directory) Turning UAC off causes even more of a hassle (Adobe Reader had an issue). Moreover, fps wise: Counterstrike would have a really unstable FPS unless you disable the transparency in the Theme options. Once you have the transparency effect turned off, all games would run fine, almost the same as XP; however, fps would go down around 10-20 in source games when compared to running the game in XP. Another issue that was a little troublesome was to get the refresh rate right. At first it was giving me problems running 75hz (I have a vx922 lcd), but after updating my drivers and adding -freq 75, it was all good. AND NO DX10 IS NOT WORTH A DAMN.

Final Say: If you want to experience some flashyness and some animation effects, I guess you can go for Vista. It definitely has a little bit more work to be done to optimize some things. But it will run your games. However, if you don't want that crap, and want the most stable operating system and an operating system that will get at least a 10 percent performance boost from Service Pack 3, I suggest you stay with Windows XP.
AND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE UBUNTU, the free alternative to the Vista, which will always have a ton of more graphical enhancements and glam that Vista will never have (But not gamer friendly, unless you figure out how to use WINE). Or you can just wait until Windows 7 Comes out :D
got to go with XP as of now. Much better gaming performance and significantly less bugs than Vista. Sure Vista has some nifty apps and cool-looking interface and better security, but it is an absolute power hog especially when it comes to how much of your ram it eats up. Also, there are a lot of annoying compatibility issues right now with Vista that are not in XP.

I have been using Vista since about May '07, and haven't really had any problems to speak of. It seems to run fine for everything I need it to do, and I wouldn't go back to XP for any reason at this point.
I suppose it requires more system memory and cpu power to run, but if one has a decent amount of both I don't think that it poses much of a problem. I have 2gb of RAM and an Athlon X2 4200+ and have found that it runs Vista smooth, with no hangups at all. Actually I am running Vista smoother than I ever did XP, but I had a comparatively weaker computer at the time when I was on XP.
I am only speaking from my experience, and evidently there seems to be a good amount of people who have found Vista to be somewhat less favorable than its predecessor.
Regardless, as is the case when you have a company that holds a monopoly on the market, Vista will be the primary supported OS for the next several years to come. I think that it will please the majority of people who make the switch, but I suppose it is not for everyone. Just keep in mind that you need a good dual core CPU and plenty of RAM to make the most of this system.
vista. dont listen to peeps who say its garbage cuz most likely they are just getting that from the critics and havnt really tried it themselves. everyone i kno that has vista has had absolutely no bugs or compatabilty issues with it as long as you update your drivers. i have also found that it runs games better than xp.
#9 clearly has no idea what hes talking about, and #10 is right if you have an older comp stick to xp otherwise you might have performance issues, i dont wanna swtich from xp just because i dont want to get used to a new os.. im happy with xp
I've got both on a laptop and desktop. Vista takes more RAM but if you've got 2 GB (or more) Vista performs more smoothly and makes better use of hardware.
#25 Windows 7 is going to be buggy as hell when it releases and incompatible with a lot of programs, just like Vista was when it released. Vista has been fixed since release.
i have vista ultimate 64 and it runs fine, no reason to use xp anymore, but i wouldn't upgrade from xp tp vista now if you haven't already, just wait and jump to win 7
Vista ultimate 64 is amazing it worked perfectly only downside was I couldn't change my refresh rate past 85 and I have a crt so i went to xp :D. If I had an lcd I would stick with vista.
i prefer windows xp over vista: xp does not require much for a computer to handle, and it's easy to tweak for enhancements to further cpu performance, i'd recommend it for both low-end and high-end cpus
I ran Windows 7 RC for a few weeks and it was looking pretty solid. If you're still using XP right now I'd see no reason to switch until Windows 7 releases its final version. Also, I've been running Vista 64 Ultimate for awhile and love it. I've had no problems other than you can't change your polling rate very easily like in XP.
xp will be better if u dont have a new and fast computer. vista hogs ur systems resources since its so new and tries to look as good as possible instead of just getting the job done and looking average. but if u have a new computer that is pretty fast then vista is fine. xp is still better though. vista has problems that wont be fixed which is why windows 7 is coming out instead of microsoft fixing vista. the problems with vista only affect certain people though cuz it depends on what u use your computer for which will determine if u run into any of the problems it has.
Vista Vs Xp
right now it seems as though its all personal preference
stick with xp until microsoft fixes this
