E4500 = $137.99 (200x11) = 2200mhz
E6550 = $183.99 (333.25x7) = 2332.mhz

Mobo = Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35
Cpu HS/F = Zalman CNPS - 9700NT

Mobo rated to get to 490FSB max.

just want to know all your opinions on which cpu is better with my setup. i am going oc as high as possible but i fear with the e6550 i won't be able to because locked 7 multiplier and mobo's fsb rated limit is 490mhz =3.4ghz. but the E4500 is locked 11 multipliers and fsb is 200 which means 490x11 is much higher.

None the E6750 is a better choice it will take you to 3.5-3.7ghz easy with that mobo just make sure u get DDR2 1066ram because 1333fsb processors need good ram to oc well so dont get DDR2800. You could Oc a pair of DDR2800 but that would be more work. Also don't get that cpu hs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp.. this is cheaper and is almost as good as the termalright tower 120 extreme. The multi on E6750 is 8x so 333x8 is 2.66 ghz which is default 490 would make it 3.9ghz max oc. You would get a higher OC then the E6550 and is only 20bucks more.

#6 its a forum its not english clash chill out, and yes u can still get a E8400 its called a xeon E3110 and no they havnt stoped making them its just low stock. But a E3110 is exactly the same as the E8400 just they named it xeon its 45nm same specs same cache same 3.0ghz. You can find E3110 for $180-300 Depending on were you look. They are now allmost as hard to find as a E8400 other then a E8400 best choice would be a E6850 if thats to much then like i said before a E6750 would do well.

e2180 + some cheap air cooling -> 3.6ghz or more if you get a good cpu, don't waste your money on the big ones, save for a quad core upgrade later.
btw you should get the ds3 not the ds3l because that one has a few problems.

A xeon is similar, but it is supposed to be a server processor and may not be compatible with your mobo. This happens alot when people try to use xeon equivalents so do your homework before buying.

#13, the SATA DVD drive I bought was a bast.ard. Wouldn't boot from it for ages, due to windows 'supposedly' not recognising it - but it did recognise it - just stopped installing at 30% or something. So I plugged in an old IDE CDRW and it worked fine..after the 2nd go. Think CD was bust too.

Anyway, I notice very little (if any) difference between my SATA DVD drive and my IDE CDRW drive. The thing is, the DVDRW drive won't read CDs for some reason. DVDs are fine, but no CDs. It's bad, but I can't be bothered to RMA.

Basically, it won't matter which one you get.

And #15, what problems do you mean? I haven't had any with my DS3L yet *touchwood*

#19 the Xeon has a different fetch process though - it fetches in a 'server' way rather than a 'desktop' way. I don't fully understand it, but I've read it in various places.

It's still near enough the same though, just a slight difference.

Xeon processors are not compatible with all motherboards and thats just a fact. If you buy a Xeon make sure it is compatible with your mobo. I'm not saying you need a server motherboard but you need to double check compatibility.

#21, yeah, a lot of them need a new bios flash to cope with the Xeons.

Basically, they boot ok, but run at 350mhz or something stupid, until you flash the bios.
