5L feels sticky and drags the mouse. It's supposed to be a mix of plastic/cloth, it wears out quickly, tbh it's bad, do not buy. SP is like S&S but smoother, that is basically very little control. Not good either. QcK Heavy is the most solid SteelSeries pad.
The 5L is a perfectly good pad, I've had mine for over a year now and it isn't worn out really. It's a thick cloth pad with a plastic/fiber surface coating, so it gives you more control than pure plastic pads, but also more glide than pure cloth. The only thing to worry about is keeping it clean, just wipe it off with a dry cloth once a week and you're set.
I'm probably getting another one whenever the one I have finally does start to wear off.

I think the QcK is probably the most satisfactory surface for the general majority.
i just tried the qpad ec-r and i like it better than my S&S.

Q-pad EC-R wears out so quick though...but i did like it when i had it.
