Well they are both good cards but the 8800gt is superior at higher resolutions.
Also when overclocked and with Sli the 8800gt will stomp the 9600gt.
Acually a overclocked 8800gt performes only 3% less than the 8800gtx which still cost around $450, so its a great card for $200.

I bought a evga not overclocked even and it like tears apart any game i throw at it with 1440 by 900 rez.
Im so impressed by it im gonna buy another one and overclock them both :)

I bought a 9600gt from XFX and I couldn't be happier...16x12 cod4 with everything turned up runs flawlessly...

The card runs crysis with everything on high at about 30 fps...the only thing slowing it down is the rest of my computer...

#6 yes. 8800GT is beast. 9600GT is for those who don't want to spend $200+.

8800 GT has nearly 2x the stream processing as the 9600.
So, in all fairness.. The 8800 GT blows away the 960ogt.

it doesn't 'blow it away'.

There is a noticeable difference, in benchmarks, but if you can get the 9600GT at a decent price like I did then go for it.

And yeah I know I bumped this thread.

i heard there have been problems with the 9600 drivers too that hinder it's performance

That's a very nice price on the 320mb

Remember though, 512mb runs on the G92 core.
and It's 200$ with mail-in-rebate (I never count those)

8800GT is definitely a good card though.

The 8800GT outperforms both the 320mb and 640mb versions. I myself bought a 320mb just to hold me till Q4, when i will more than likely start a whole new build.

getting an 8800gt for less than $200 is a steal. They still perform like $300+ cards.
