i'd go with a new motherboard and i dunno much about that type or corsair ram. your case is also a mystery to me. and i dont know if the 8800GTX is worth buying anymore. but all in all, it seems fine.
the ram is good, has nice reviews I dont know about the mobo heard good things about it and the case/psu is 5/5 reviews and its cheap - already have the ram =x
I got the case, pretty good... cheap roomy case. Just don't hit it too hard. Might suggest buying something else if you want more "luxury". The processor isn't worth the money, buy the Q6600 and overclock it. New motherboard, too.. that board has it's share of problems. If you must have SLi, go with the 780i or 790i EVGA brand. If SLi isn't big, just go the Gigabyte P35 DS3L. The RAM is good.
If you plan on spending that much on a video card though, might as well buy the 9800Gx2. It's WELL worth the price. Not only will you play Crysis on "Very high" DX10 settings, but with 40+ FPS. @ about 1600x1200
Yeah, as the others have said...Regarding your processor, an E8400 or Q6600 would be a better bet. Generally, if you're looking at gaming for the most part...Dual cores are better performers currently simply because the majority of games do not handle all four cores yet. I think Crysis is one of the first that offers quad core support? If you are more or less into web design (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc..) Video editing, 3-D rendering or anything of that nature...A quad is a better purchase for you...Would probably hang around a bit longer as well, I imagine more software will "use" all four cores as times goes on - Vista for example.
In terms of the power supply, again, as others mentioned...The ones that come by way of manufacturer are generally unreliable; the extra money you put into a better PSU is worth it - Watts aren't everything. Corsair's PSUs are pretty good... Believe they're Seasonals, pretty known and trusted brand. The Corsair 620 would probably be adequate for your current graphics card...If you swap it for a 9800, you may want to go to something higher, simply because you'd be cutting it close..
Definitely wouldn't get the GTX right now...not worth it for the money. Like they said, better options are available. 8800 GT...512 MB version is the best bang for the buck right now and you could get two of those in SLI for around the same price...The 9800GX2 is also quite viable too, meets your needs and will stick around for a bit..It's more expensive though.
Probably better mobos around, if you're going SLi...there's a couple nice 780i boards out: the XFX one is pretty good. and of course the 680i chipset would be fine as well.
gtx performs barely as well as the gt and its about half the price give or take. I was surprised myself and was wondering why so many people were getting dual 8800gts instead of gtx's. Im getting 2 8800gts for my next build, which is soon
New PC, thoughts?
GPU: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX Superclocked 768MB GDDR3
PSU/Case: Ultra Aluminus Mid-T w/700w XVS PSU
RAM: Corsair TWINX 2048MB PC6400
MOBO: Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI
Looking to run COD4 max graphics, maybe Crysis on medium, all HL2 games - etc, lemme know. :)
(btw, going to cost about 1200$ Canadian)
bad gpu
id pass on the psu
good ram
bad mobo
If your not going SLI, or not planing to atleast get a different board. If you want SLI a better board would be the 780i or the 680i
