i'm looking to get a new computer soon. my price range is preferably within 1500$. i would like to get 125fps in cod4 also. i don't need a lot of hard drive space, just enough for music/games. i don't need a monitor/mouse/keyboard. i prefer AMD over intel.
Intel Q6600 or E8400 XFX/EVGA?NVIDIA nForce 680i SLi 9800 GTX (wait until evga/xfx models, SLi if you have the $) Western Digital 250GB 2 (or even 4 if you run vista) GB Corsair dual channel RAM zalman 9700 heatsink or arctic freezer 7 pro antec 900 case corsair 620hx psu (620 watts)
and go EVGA with the 680i and vid card. cant go wrong with that step-up program. i'd pic the artic freezer 7 pro because it has more value for the performance.
#2 has the right idea - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp.. $100 for 2x2gb of fairly good ocing ram, can even go cheaper if you don't plan on overclocking. Also they're hard to get, but I'd go with an E8400 or some sort of dual core, quad core is useless right now and you can overclock more (esp with the beastly 8400) with duals. Also you really don't need that good of a computer to get 125fps in CoD4 (what res do you play in/do you care about having aa/af on?), you could definitely make a cheaper comp than a build like #2s and get that.
I'd agree with #8s single GPU build pretty much. Maybe get a 9800GTX since you have the money. SLI is a waste unless you game on a big screen at stupidly high resolutions.
Actually you can get an 8800 Gtx for 290.00 from evga. The reason people would stick with the 8800 gtx or ultra are not only are they fast(8800gtx is only on average 7% slower than a 9800gtx) they have 768mb of ram which makes a huge difference if you like AA or like to play at high resolutions. If you are playing cod4 def get an intel quad as cod4 supports 4 cores and intel rapes amd atm. If hd space isn't an issue get a WD raptor. Get 4 gigs of corsair or crucial ddr2 as it is cheap as dirt now. Zalman 9700 is good no matter what cpu you get. AF7 pro is only good for dual cores. As for psu i always go with pc power and cooling because in my opinion they provide the most quality power supplies.
help with new build
any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated :]

Get 4gb's of RAM If you plan on getting Vista and CRYSIS, 2gb If not (CoD4)

You should make a thread about which RAM you should get since I don't really care that much about timings and small details.
#6's RAM is probably the best if you want 4GB of solid RAM:

Also don't forget that you NEED to get the new G92 512mb versions of the 8800 GTS!
Everyone please give me feedback because I might buy those too! (Single-GPU one because I'm poor)
I really like this kind of stuff so It's all natural.

With the stock 8800GTS 512mb doing as good as the 8800GTX... (and sometimes better)
http://www.techspot.com/review/79-geforce..
But yea, of course that SLi build would rock high resolutions.
I mean, the lowest priced 8800GTS 512 is 230$ (200 with mail-in rebate), lowest 8800GTX 344$ and the lowest 9800GTX goes for 300$
Price gap is huge for nothing more than a few more frames per second...

Someone pointed me to this card.

145$ or 115$ after mail-in-rebate.
It would be a very good choice If you don't plan on playing Crysis with insane graphics.
