I just bought a new MX518 recently and I love it. The only problem is I am using the crappiest mousepad (some $5 Allsop crap from staples).
I was wondering what mousepads out there are good with the 518 and if there are any stores in Canada that I can just walk into and find them (highly doubt it, but worth a shot).
qck(+) heavy etc work just fine with the 518. they don't have much friction..
...for a few weeks. The qcks aren't very durable and will feel like some average / less than average cloth pad in no time. If you've got the money to buy new pads all the time -> go for it.
Otherwise: Allsop XL (extremely durable) Allsop Widescreen Pad (NOT the same surface as the XL) Razer Mantis Speed, Control (whatever you prefer, I personally like the speed better - somebody compared the feel of the Control similar to jeans (!) a while back and it's not all wrong. EG Titan (many people think that the Titan and Mantis Speed are almost identical - it's not true) Supermat QPad UC
If you like hard pads: Steelseries S&S (no need for words) Steelseries SP (almost no friction) Razer Destructor (feels like a mix between the sp and s&s to me - it's the best hard pad imho - but extremely expensive)
i think the qck heavy is the most overrated mousepad in history. if you want a big cloth pad thats a quality product get an xray aqua 3. when they're new the cloth feels almost silky, and it just feels so smooth.
hardpad frictionless - steelseries sp hardpad with friction - razer destructor clothpad frictionless - noidpad clothpad with friction - qck heavy
also i dont want some cool guy like olba posting the obvios that the sp f.e. isnt completely frictionless it simply has the least amount of friction. i know this and so does everyone else.
also here is a list of mousepads i would stay away from: steelseries sx - has an oil like substance on top which provides incredible glide however attracts any dust like a magnet and once washed degrades the quality of the mousepad itself. steelseries 5L - solid mousepad however will not remain consistent in terms of glide for long as unlike other hardpads it cannot be properly washed hence it loses glide as well as texture. Everglide DKT - the worst mousepad ever made, broke my arm using it and am currently in the process of suing destrukt as well as his chin.

-steelseries Qck + and heavy are great
But for some reason some people don't seem to agree that if professional players use a product, it must at least be good. I wonder, why is that?
Also, I know someone who uses at Qck + with the 518 and he is saying he is having problems moving the mouse around. Thoughts?
