Hopefully someone will know a secret that I don't know and fix my problem. I actually have 2 problems.
Problem #1) Whenever I am connecting to any server, whether that be a regular server or a LAN server it freezes at "Establishing network connection to server". I can't tab out or anything. I have to end the process in the Task Manager.
Problem #2) I connect to many IRC servers, GameSurge, QuakeNet, WyldRyde, etc and after a very short while I disconnect. This only happens to GameSurge, the others I can connect to and stay connected to just fine.
These problems seem to have started happening after I uninstalled Zone Alarm (because my trial was over and I couldn't find a serial for it) and installed COMODO Firewall Pro. I messed with the settings on COMODO to allow ports and what not and had no luck. I even uninstalled it just to test if that could of been the problem and the problem still occurred. If anyone knows what I can do to fix this I will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
I forgot to add that I even uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it with the same problems. I don't want to reformat so that isn't going to happen.
If you think it might be network related, try temporarily disabling your Windows Firewall.
The firewall(s) may have created exceptions that are embedded in your registry. These probably won't show up in the Windows Firewall graphical user interface like the manual exceptions you create.
I would open mirc connect to gamesurge wait until connection fails again and try going to command prompt "ipconfig_release" and "ipconfig_renew" pretty mush just restating the connection but worked for me in the past with similar problems.
.sound like it could have something to do with the uninstall of zonealarm I would just take a peak at your system and application log to see if anything is flaged after the uninstall.

Hopefully that article helps, it may take a bit more troubleshooting but that should give you a good start.
