kinda like how counter strike is waaaaay more cpu based, is cod4 more like that but with one or the other?
my computer is REALLY crappy
nvidia 6800 amd 3500+ 1gb ram
im gonna buy a new computer soon more likely prolly just gonna use the pricing guide, cuz i know jack about speeds, and computers stuff, i only know about sound and peripherials
anyways i use an FPS config and i just cap my fps at 76
but if i can buy a graphics card that i could use until i get my new computer, that would get me constant 125fps with the yitch fps config, i would be a happy dude
and on a side note, anyone know a site that could teach me ALOT about computer hardware?
When I started playing COD4, I was running 50-60 fps max with 7600gt and amd 3800x2 cpu. When I got the 8800GTS, fps went up to 80-90 fps with maxed details, changing cpu to q6600 got everything up to 125 fps fairly stable.
You have to have an acceptable cpu, I would say at least a decent dual core (also prefer intel), but gpu makes a bigger difference for COD4.
i play cod4 on an e6550 and a way old 6800gs.... i still get hella decent frames i have to keep graphics low, but it runs really smooth. In css, i get constant 100 fps
having to play it for a couple of months now, I would say more on the GPU side; but you could lose some what of good performance from having a crappy CPU.
I believe in order to have a good video card to function to its maximum performance and power, you will need a good CPU for support. Like for instance, you can't have a very good video card like the 9800GX2 and have lets say a amd 4000+ for its support and expect the best performance.
You want good performance?
Core 2 Duo E6750 or the quad cores 2.6 and above and either the 9800GTx or GX2 in my opinion. Now that is good support for the video cards.
I am not telling you to purchase any, it's an example.
COD4 Fps based off of cpu..?

q6600
8800gts
4gb ram
There are a ton of computer hardware sites out there, mostly with reviews, but also some guides and excellent community forums like this one.
You could try checking out www.techreport.com which is a favorite of mine.
youtube has a lot of helpful videos on building pc's. they have just bout everything these days.

its 'limited'
and cod4 is such an advanced game, it needs both amazing gpu and cpus to run steady. if either one is low then there will be trouble.
cmon guys this is gotfrag, you should know this.
is your graphics card PCI-E or AGP?
if it's AGP, upgrade everything at once. if PCI-E, buy a card, and try it. then save up and move it onto your new pc.
