hey guys, i am having trouble with building my new computer. here are my specs: -XFX nForce 680i LT SLI mobo -sony 20x dvd burner eide -intel core 2 quad Q6600 -corsair twinx 2 gig(1gig x2) -mass cool 8wa741 cpu fan w/ heatsink -seagate 320 GB serial ATA HD -Ultra grid ATX clear side case w/ 700 watt -XFX geforce 8800 GT graphic card
my problem right now is i have conected the psu to the mobo, and the Internal Headers to the mobo, it wont start. the only thing that works are the Blue and yellow(when case power button is pushed)lights. no fans (including the power supply fan) works. anyone have any suggestions? i really appreciate it.
those are the images i just took on the connections, my cabling is a bit messy right now, and not everything is connected (had to see if i connected wrong things)
I had a combo through Tigerdirect with that same mobo/cpu combo. It is probably your mobo, you might want to plug in an older 775 if you have one, see if you can get it to post.
Personally, I would take it back. I decided to go intel and have not regretted it, most stable build I've ever had.
The issue, afaik, is this-- that bios doesn't support the Q6600, and to get the bios updated, of course you need it to post. Kind of tough unless you have an older cpu to drop into that board. This is identical to what happened in January to me. RMA for a different combo, dude.
You can: 1. Buy a new 775 processor (the cheapest you can get) and flash the BIOS 2. RMA to get the 680i LT with the newer BIOS 3. Get a store to do it for you
I had two different builds that wouldn't post with xfi 680i lt and Q6600 GO, doing the same exact thing as what this guy's comp. is doing. It could be the RAM, it could be the video card, power supply, hell, it could be his wiring or maybe he fried something putting everything together. But by replacing the mobo with a different model, using the same exact components otherwise, I had no problems with build #3.
If you have a better explanation, let him know, otherwise, I suggest he learns from my experience and chooses another mobo, or drops in another 775 chip and see if he can get a post.
Sorry I couldnt tell from the picture. The power supply is it an 8pin or 4pin connector? If it's a 4pin it goes in the first 4 closest to the processor. That happens sometimes.
Also when you say "doesn't start" what do you mean. What do you get from it exactly???
I guess you could but the processor might not be your problem. If you have an extra 775socket processor you might as well see if that's the problem. Also, I see some people complain that their 680i came DOA. Might want to keep that in mind.
Did you know that 680i also needs a power connector from the psu besides the 24pin. there should be a 4pin slot just like the one on CD or internal drives next to the 24pin connector.

yeah it's the 8 pin connector, i connected that , but nothing moved.
As far as a new mobo goes, I'm using the Intel 975XBX with a Q6600. It doesn't have pcie 2.0, but it's still very quick and stable. http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard..

And for people saying I'm not right because they have the 680i + Q6600 combo, there are numerous versions of the 680i LT, and it's a KNOWN problem. If it works for you, you got the newer batch of motherboards.

You can try unplugging everything and starting over.
I know I had the same problem when I built mine, I think one of the cables wasn't plugged in correctly.
