Hey guys, I just got all of my PC parts in today and I'm ready to assemble my PC, but first I have a few questions.
For reference, here are my components:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Yorkfield 3.2GHz - $1,469.99 Mobo: ASUS nForce 590 AMD ATX Motherboard - $229.99 RAM: CORSAIR 4GB DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Memory For Apple Notebook - $129.99 Burner: SAMSUNG HD-DVD/DVD/CD Burner - $499.99 Case: Dell XPS 720 Gaming System - $2,949 Video Card: Radeon 9550 128 MB AGP 4X/8X Video Card - $22.99 PSU: El Roto RIZA 300~1200W PSU - $34.96
I had to get a budget video card when I found out how much the case was. It all totaled out to $5336.91, which isn't too bad. And the PSU was a great deal I found on a trip to Mexico. Anyways, I already have the parts and they're ready to be built on my bed, but first I was wondering, can I just plug in my PSU while I build? That way I know when I'm done, because it'll turn on when it's ready.
Well, my friend sent me the link to the case... I thought it was a whole system too but he insisted the case was the most expensive component. And when I open the case up it looks full of stuff already.
Builds screwed up completely. I really hope this is a joke. You have an AGP graphics card listed in there, the ram you have is for an Apple Notebook, you have a PSU that says 300W-1200W for $35...
Yes it appears my "friend" lied to me, but I just got back from a computer shop and bought a case so I'm good to go.
In case anyone was wondering, this workstation will be for WoW, Word 2007, web working, and watching movies. If anyone has a PC building tutorial that would be great, but I'm assuming all of the parts kind of snap together. I'll update as I progress.
you'll have moderate difficulty in getting an intel cpu to run on an amd motherboard. likewise, im thinking that notebook ram is not quite the right size to fit in a normal ATX motherboard. your agp graphics will work fine in the PCIe express port of the motherboard... the powersupply you ordered might just blow up when you plug it in. and good luck finding any use in the HD DVD drive you ordered, considering how all support for HD DVD has been dropped by the movie industry.
other then that it looks pretty good. oh and this guy is quite clearly trying to be funny...
Well first off I don't appreciate the unhelpful comments, that would be all of you except awdrpepper. But maybe someone can help me out, as I'm in a jam. It seems none of the parts have any clear indication of where they go (as in A connects to C). Every component has a different documentation so I have NO CLUE what I'm doing.
And secondly every time I touch a component I get shocked. Is that static building up from doing this on my bed? And yes I have socks on, so my feet are definitely covered.
Wow. #1 GTFO the internet. Go to school. Learn something about computers, how to buy/build them, then come back. Or use a proxy and search the interwebs anonymously about how to but/build computers.
My first build

I have a good feeling that you're joking, but if you aren't it's still funny.
So either way thread fails.

Because everyone is being a dick, here is a nice build that will last for a few years. I added 4gb of memory because Im assuming youre using vista. If youre using XP, change that to 2gb of memory.
