I'm looking for a gaming keyboard, and apparently these three are the cream of the crop. I'm considering buying the G15, but the Lycosa looks great, too, and I've heard good things about the Saitek (Cyborg?). Question is, what would you recommend?

Why the hell do you want a "gaming" keyboard? Most of them are just a bundle of useless crap like LCDs, media keys, backlighting and macrokeys. The only useful feature found in Lycosa, 6G and 7G only is the good keys. Other than that, they're just huge bundles of useless crap that has nothing to do with gaming.

Sigh, I knew that someone was bound to ask that.

I like shiny stuff, and from what I've read the LCD's and backlighting are even useful, besides just plain cool. Whenever I want to buy something, I try to save for the best, it's just the way I am. Now how about helping me with that choice.

#3 I just got used to a laptop keyboard, and it feels nice. I wouldn't mind having one of those on my PC.

Only useful feature in "gaming" keyboards is anti ghosting(ability to press several keys, usually 3 or more at once), and not all of them have it. Some people experience some button jamming in games. It's related to the amount or combination of keys you hit. I have the tarantula, I can press 7 keys at the same time. Not that I ever press more than 4 or 5.

Chris, i bought the razer tarantula, its the one previously released before the lycosa. Tbh, it looks good.. and i can press multiple keys @ once.. but thats all about it.

You really dont need a gaming keyboard, a standard dell keyboard is more than suitable. dont get me wrong, im serious about gaming, but for the money you pay, its not worth it man.

Do you want to use the macro buttons?

I ask this because ALL of these keyboards (even the razer "anti ghosting") have SERIOUS rollover issues. If you don't know what rollover issues are, its the combinations of keys you can press at once, and ALL of these have serious issues from the EDC row, and to the left. If you're a FPS'er I'd highly recommend NOT getting one of these keyboards, if you're a serious gamer. If you're a casual gamer, and/or play MMORPG's mostly then any will do, and it's up to you.

If however you want a keyboard that actually PERFORMS in what a keyboard should do (mainly for rts/fps button combinations), I'd suggest looking at the Keytronic Lifetime keyboards for a membrane technology, or look at the Raptor M10 for a mechanical keyboard. Technically the SteelSeries 7G is an amazing keyboard so that's an option too, but the price is jacked up because it's labeled 'gaming'.

**Note because a company like razer claims you can push 4-6 buttons at once doesn't mean ANYTHING, because they can be measuring that value anywhere on the board, and it's usually in less useful places for gamers.

im using the razer lycosa.

the led lit up keys are good for me because i play with the lights off.
the media key touch pad panel is nice for when im not gaming and listening to music while browsing the web.
the anti ghosting key cluster works for me and the combinations i use while playing CoD4.
the laptop "low profile" style keys are so nice to use.

at first i couldnt get used to the keys and i had to keep looking down to type but now im used to it and i love it!

Main things i enjoy about this are the nice keys and the anti ghosting cluster (only works for wasd users)

#10 - It's actually just the opposite for the Lycosa. You can press more keys in "gamer areas" than you can on other parts of the keyboard.

I have both the G15v1 and Lycosa. Both are great and needs time to get used to. Either are great in my opinion. The Lycosa is more compact than the G15 and is better for people with small table spaces.

1-you fail to mention what youre looking for in a keyboard.

you said cream of the crop, therefore i assume youre looking for the technically superior boards.
the steelseries 7g is technically the best keyboard around atm. behind the 7g come cherrycorp boards. these boards allow you to register 3 or more keystrokes at once which is very useful for someone that plays a game like stepmania f.e. where this actually does come into play.

aside from this a 10 dollar keyboard will do just fine.

you also go on to mention that you want a keyboard that looks good. this i cannot help you with because it comes down to personal preference. however what i can say is that the G15 as well as Saitek keyboards look like crap designed for 10yo kids.
