I haven't tried the a700, but I have the HD280Pro's, and dang dude, they are freakin sweet! Clear sound with the right amount of treble and bass! And the noise canceling works like a charm. When I'm not listining to any sounds, you can barely hear outside sounds through them. Turn on any sound at and volume, and you can't hear ANYTHING other than that sound.

Pretty much narrow your choices down to the HD280Pro's or the a700's!

check out http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-applica.. they will show a range of headphones from 60 to 700 bucks (USD) and give good reviews about them each with a graph of their audio performance at different levels.

for 100ish I would get some Sennheiser HD280 Pro's, as a matter of fact I'm getting a pair soon for my birthday coming up. They're awesome.

DT770's are too bass heavy for my liking. ATH-A700s are very good but I prefer Equation RP-21's. They are both cheaper and sound a little more rounded (in my opinion). HD280pro's are decent headphones in themselves but aren't in the same class as A700s or RP-21s

D1000's are very nice phones, not often suggested as they aren't considered one of the pro choices. These phones are awesome for gaming tbh. (:

#21 ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/BEYERDYNAMIC-DT-770-D..

just do a google search and find an online retailer that sells it for ~$150 and print out the add and take it to Guitar Center where they will match the price (they have it for $200).
