over the last week my 10 month old 555's have been breaking down on me. Something is loose, the speakers/drivers are broken, i dunno what it is but any under even mediocre bass the cans shake, rattle, and get violently distorted. After having enough of it, I call Sennheiser.
The lady, was not only extremely helpful, explained all the processes thoroughly, but she even explained all my options. I could have a pair cross-shipped, simply send it in, or even.... upgrade my headphones!
WHAT? My 10 month old sennheisers are broken, and shes telling me I can get their MSRP price of 179.99 for the 555's and apply it to a different headset if I wish! I was thinking about coughing up 180$ for some PC350's anyway, but who needs to now? Sending in my broken 555's and 70$ and i get a pair of pc350's.
I could understand that #2, but my gripes with the HD555's wouldnt go away with the 595's, ontop of that they are even more expensive.
Why I don't like the 555's: I play 1.6, a lot, being that I hate desk mics, and the zalman clip on is the best (yet still horrid) option, thats a huge negative to me. On top of that, the sound leak is atrocious, I can hear my headphones from outside. Lastly, I live in a house of 4 college roommates, all of our entertainment (computer, tv, rockband, etc.) is all in the same room. Needless to say if theres noise in the room, it gets almost impossible for me to hear ingame. The desire for a pair of sealed cans (not active noise cancelling, but passive), was high on my list, add to the quality of both the headphones and the mic, the pc350 is an easy choice. Are there better options as far as overall sound is concerned? Of course, but the pc350's do what theyre supposed to do remarkably well.
#1 You contacted Sennheiser Support ? Where did you buy the product ?
I bought my HD 555 from Amazon.de. Not that it is broken or anything, just curious if I can contact Sennheiser directly in the future instead of amazon if it is broken.
#6 Any after return policy problems you have with the headphone, you would have to contact sennheiser regardless. Retailers do not support products themselves, simply sell them and offer a window of time to return them. So yes you would go to sennheisers website, look up their phone number or through the website itself to start the RMA (Return to Manufacturer)
#9 they are great headphones, i think due to the ambient noise levels at my residence, ive had to crank the volume up higher than normal/should, and cause great wear to them fast. That's the only real explanation i can offer because the build quality on these things are quite good.
so you got 179 bucks worth of credit for returning them? don't bash me please I dont understand what you meant kinda.
also how much are the PC350's worth when getting them from Sennheiser directly. Hopefully when im done with my HD280-pro headphones I can trade them in with some cash to get some PC350's
Sennheiser's MSRP on 555's is 179.99 Sennheisers MSRP on PC350's is 249.99
Of course u can get them cheaper at other locations, but thats the value that sennheiser looks at when doing a warranty trade-up. So all I had to pay was the flat difference of 70$
#22 according to cevo's website, they have a trade-up program, im not sure to be honest. How long youve owned the 280pro's and whatnot may be a factor. Call and ask is the best you can do. Id suggest calling, so at least they dont have any personal information if they say no =).
Im not sure if this is a warranty option only, or for their headphones period.
555s are gorgeous, if you've got extra money to spend the 600s are a step above though so look into those. Not even necessarily in terms of sound quality, more comfort. They'll cost you though.

My pc350's arrived today, and I LOVE them in comparison to my 555's. It could be due to a number of things, to me they sound MUCH better. Note: Ive never used 595's so I wont try and make a comparison, but I can say for a fact I enjoy them MUCH more than my 555's.
This is for music, movies, and cs. Ingame, i hear things literally other people can't, it's pretty insane. Directional sound is absolutely amazing, and the seperation of noises is unparalled. I can distinctly hear different guns firing in a deathmatch, rather than a bunch of noise in general directions. Footsteps are clear, gunfire sounds different then any headset ive used, and Im not quite sure how to explain that one. It took me about 2 scrims to adjust to the difference in sound, but I love them.
The first song I listened to was A skylit drive - Wires and the concept of breathing, the song opens up with light instrumentals, and a rhythmatic drum bass. The bass is absolutely beautifull in music. And i mean, BEAUTIFUL. With the 555's there was obvious distinctions in instruments, pitches and whatnot, but with these pc350's, they are so completely seperated. Ive listened to this song hundreds of time, and the bass drum actually made me jump because of how much it stood out.
The mic of course, is amazing. I am using these cans with a Creative XMOD USB soundcard, how they sound with an X-Fi, a Sennheiser USB Soundcard, etc., is unknown to me. Also, I'm not going to try and attempt to describe what makes me think these sound so much better than the 555's, because audio is all preferential in the end. I think it may have to due with the closed design and sound isolation, but, w/e.
All in all, this is the first headset (or headphones for that matter), that I'd welcomly give a 10/10 to.
God i love sennheiser
