What are the things you need to build a comp.? I know you need a motherboard, proccesor, graphics card, ram, case, and a hardrive.. what else do i need besides those?
#5 yea most computer store outlets have it. It goes directly on the back of the CPU where the writing is. Then you put a heatsync on top of that. Make you you get a good CPU heatsync. Also make sure it's for your processor.. it should be called a T socket for most processors. When you use the thermal paste, make a line from right edge to left edge of the processor. That's all you need, and the heatsync will spread it out.
moNstarr_... make sure you know what you are doing or get someone else's help while you are building it.
just connecting all the components through wires and powering up doesn't do anything. you gotta set up your BIOS and make sure everything is intact and in place. i mean there are more stuffs that you need to worry about, such as air flow in the box and overclocked cpu (since it's OEM).
it can get complicated. go read some tomshardware (google it) on how to build computers.
i just hope that you dont waste money on it..i've seen a plenty of people who think they know and screw up their build...
If you are using a 32bit Xp i don't think it will recognize your 4GB or ram..but if you are using a 64bit Xp i think it will recognize it. Correct me if i'm wrong. If you can get more money i would say get a 8800GTS they are cheap now and it has a better cooling if you intend to OC it more :) Just a question what will u be doing to that computer? Gaming?
Lian Li makes quality cases, I heard DFI wasn't the most user friendly of motherboards, but if you know someone who knows a lot then I'm sure you will be alright, but if you want something a little more user friendly go with a gigabyte motherboard, especially if you're not going to OC.

Also you should do some more research on the parts you're buying. Like dont get that ATI, go with a 8800GT 512 mb

As for that build, I'd change the case for a Coolermaster 690 or Antec 900 and get a ZEROtherm Nirvana cooler or Tuniq Tower.
If you're on a tight budget, you can stick to the Arctic Freezer 7.
Keep the HD4850, much better value at the moment, the 8800GT's reign is over.
Very good build!
9/10
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp.. - Visiontek Video card, life time warranty, basically same price? no question.

Ram should be nice, even if 32bit XP can only recognize 3 or so GBs, but if you ever upgrade to 64bit OS you already have 4GB instead of 3GB.
Get a SATA DVD Burner, less cable clutter and easier to plug in xD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
Also get a good PSU, will last longer, more efficient, will keep your other components alive longer - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
Also might want to look into a 16mb cache hard drive. The seagate 7200.10, and 7200.11 are out. They are a little bit faster.

Good luck on your build!
#14 Yeah it's 64 bit and using for gaming :P
And everyone else thanks! :)
as for the 4850, you're correct.
