I get this message in vent

VoiceCommMixerStart: Failed to set fader level. rc=-10

and my mic doesn't even work outside of vent... In the volume option, it says my mic is active and working, and the volume is set to 100%. All I hear is fuzz when I try talking. And, yes, I've tried other mics.

check the connections. do you have a discrete soundcard? are you using it? are you using onboard? do you have a fairly new videocard that supports HDMI? do you have a usb headset? did you make sure your default mic was set in the sound properties? did you set the mixer to your mic in vent? are you using directsound?

answer some of those. could help us help you.

connections are all in. I have an x-fi sound blaster. I'm using it. I have a new video card. I have a AD-700, which is not usb (the sound works fine). My default mic is set to the one plugged in. I set everything right in vent, looked over it 100 times (even though it doesn't work outside of vent either).

Oh, and I've reinstalled the drivers about 10 times.

You can reinstall Windows...

Maybe your soundcard is defective.

Did you try with the onboard audio?

Ohhh, everytime I hear X-Fi I always think of the Xtremegamer or w/e cards.

Make sure your audio is activated in your BIOS.

If it is, might be a defective mobo.

Try using the driver software and messing with it.

Yeah thanks for that link, but I did all that guy said and nothing helped :[

I guess it's just a defective onboard xfi =/

I suppose I'll just buy a pci-e one.

Buy some el-cheapo brand one =)

But before you do that, you should reinstall vent/reinstall Windows.

Just to make sure It's really an hardware problem.

Show me 1 motherboard that has that card as "on-board" sound.

I know it's disabled in BIOS, or else my sound wouldn't be working... I've also read all those forums and nothing seems to work. It shows my mic plugged in and "working," even when I unplug it. A different soundcard worked, so I assume something's just wrong with the onboard.

i believe to get into the bios you press DEL or like F12 or something, it shows up at the start of you turning on your computer.
