So I am getting a new video card, and I am currently looking at five.

Also the 9600 gt/gs and 8800 gs.

So I really need to get something that will last, stay cool, and perform very well at 1280x1024 resolution. If needed, I can purchase a cooling fan, but I would rather not. Please help and thanks in advance... I have been out of the loop on hardware for a while now.

Is it really that much better? I have heard that the 8800 GT's are about the same speed. Also are they reliable?

If you'd rather not touch an ati card, than go with the 8800 GT, if you dont mind between both chips.. go with the 4850.

HD4850 or the HD4870. Both are priced great and the performance is steller.

4850 performance is only 19% below the GeForce 260 GTX, and is overall on a par with the GeForce 9800 GTX+(Die Shrink), while beating out the 3870 X2.

4870 an average 6% faster than the 260 GTX.

8800 ULTRA

so how much faster is a 4850 than a 512 8800 gt. And what brand of ati cards is best?

Also, I have not heard very good things about ati cards, like they are unreliable and there are no good drivers... Is this true?

Also also, will my motherboard beable to use an ati card like this? I do not know what model it is or how to find out... i didnt recieve papers or anything. I currently have a 7900 gt that has a ton of problems, the reason it is being replaced.

The HD4850 is probably around 15% - 20% faster than the 8800GT, i don't have a specific number.

The 4k series is a reliable chip, and the drivers are solid. They aren't perfect but they will get better. Don't let your fear of drivers stop you from purchasing their product. There are plenty of great reviews on the card.

Yes as long as your Motherboard is PCI 16x it will run it. You just wont be able to CF it if you have an Nforce board.
