I ordered the A90f+ 3 weeks ago, and dude...its total garbage. It's such a massive monitor, and it just sucks. Stay with the LCD, thats why I got a Samsung T220 last week
I am still a firm believer in a crt, I have prolly 15 laying around because 19-21" sony trinitrons go for 30-40 bucks on craigslist here all the time. No LCD can beat the performance of a crt. 8x6 at 120hz is the only way to go. And the only way to achieve this is a CRT atm.
I play on a quite awkard monitor, 5ms 19" widescreen that doesn't adapt to 800x600. So, I play with it stretched out. I don't have a problem wrecking people ;X
LCD 2 ms great i got a samsung 21 in 2ms its amazing the quality. Gaming is great Ive always used crt 100 hrtz, but if you get a solid LCd and use it on its NATIVE resolution no problem whats so ever my 1.6 looks great all my games look 100 times better on the lcd my brother is jealous when he plays on my comp the difference you see in quality is really sick you notice it a lot trust me
I dont understand peoples argument against lcds on space. Now most desks are quite wide as it is. With an lcd theres often empty unused space. A crt fills the space but shouldn't be getting in the way. Anyways the lcd you have is quite good so I don't think it would be worth it to switch to a crt in your case.
#13 - You do realize how much bigger a CRT is? It's not necessarily that it's too wide (although some are pretty big compared to your average LCD), but its volume and how much space it takes up, say the entire length of a desk? While a LCD may take up a third of it and therefore allowing you to put a keyboard and mouse (as well as other accessories -- mouse pad, headset/headphones, mic -- of course) in front of it. Once you go 22"+/widescreen LCD, you will NEVER go back...
If you go to LANs, I swear the LCD is the way to go out of shear convenience. Its small and light and that is worth its weight in gold. Oh, and it takes up less room too :p
Don't listen to these hippies; CRT is the only way to go, especially for CS. People saying "LCD is the future" fail to mention why it's the future: because of mainstream consumer convenience. Are you a mainstream consumer?
No.
CRT.
Oh, and about the desk space, stop worrying about it. Yeah... there you go, move your lamp. Not so hard.
Wait, you're arguing against the products leading into the future and calling us hippies? Irony.
More and more people are having 2 monitor setups within the gaming scene. 2 CRTs take up too much space, 1 CRT often causes little to no room for even a 2nd LCD let alone they look ugly next to each other.
In the end, taylor, it really depends on your preference and what all you do with your monitor. You're already using a LCD of good quality.. so I'm not sure why you're starting to question the use of it unless it doesn't feel right. You care too much what others think compared to your own opinion.
For gaming CRT's are obviously the way to go, apart if your iffy with desk space and going to LANs caring about the weight (grow some muscle!!:D). Plus don't go for any CRT, Mitsubishi and Iiyama are your best choices for a great CRT (Mistubishi made the cathode ray tubes for Iiyama).

14# I lol'd. some how i manage to fit my keyboard and mouse and mouse pad on a desk with my crt. You make it sound like its as huge as a 30 inch tv or something. LCD are for desk jockees. LCD's blow honestly they have ghosting they can't display true black, the over all quality of lcd's is very lacking compared to crts. Basically LCD took off because they're cool and trendy looking and the average consummer is just gonna use his lcd to look at porn and write word documents. For gaming there is no substitute crt is the way to go.
#22 - I may have exaggerated on that, but if you really believe LCDs "blow" that much than you haven't used the higher end LCDs or even a decent LCD for that matter if you think they all ghost and suck so much.
So sorry, but you have no credibility and whatever you say should taken as a grain of salt :\...
eg.

QUOTE:For gaming there is no substitute crt is the way to go.
um every lcd has ghosting, no lcd has true black. There's no bias in it. I think the 2ms lcds are good and I wouldn't mind playing with one. But anything under 2ms is bad for gaming, if you're a gamer buying an lcd is just a down grade.
QUOTE:I think the 2ms lcds are good and I wouldn't mind playing with one. But anything under 2ms is bad for gaming, if you're a gamer buying an lcd is just a down grade.
I'm going to assume that despite your means of sounding retarded in this subject, you made a mistake and meant over 2ms is bad for gaming.
Most people arguing against LCDs have only tried the early generation of LCDs and have not even seen the performance of latest Samsung or LG models (among others) let alone play on them. CRTs are still ahead for gaming or graphic art, but for any other use the LCD is more practical.
i wish i had the money for a high end lcd. Im using the monitor i got free when i bought the comp im using 2.5 years ago - 16 ms 19" rofl I'm used to it however
ok listen basically CRTs are better for gaming but also much bigger, but basically if you have a lcd with 75hz and you are playing against people that use a CRT with 120hz they basically have an advantage over you. its like having 50fps from the LCD w/ 75hz and 100fps 120hz on a CRT. so i suggest you to get a CRT and anyone else that uses a LCD.
crt's are better for games like cs. there is no contest. the argument can be made that lcd's are not bad, but crt's are still better. i have a 2 ms samsung 931c lcd monitor that I used when I had really limited desk space, but as soon as I had more room, I went back to my viewsonic a91f+ crt.
I have a Viewsonic VX922 2MS and also a SAMSUNG ToC T190 Black 19" 2ms (the newest monitor from Samsung I believe). And for games like counter-strike 1.6 CRT is definitely better and here's why in my opinion. When I use a CRT I can easily spray a whole clip at a pretty long distance killing someone almost instant and it took me almost no time to learn and master it. Now when I am on an LCD (which I've e been using for ~2 years now for CS) I honestly think its almost impossible to do the same thing. The recoil is just totally different and feels a lot more laggy. If you cannot notice that and have been CS for even a year you are a fvcking idiot. CRT is jut allllllllllott better than any LCD for fps games on the market right now and if your denying that.. then you SIR have not played on a CRT and are decent at any FPS. Like I don't even give 2 fvcks about the ghosting - the fact that the recoil is different is extremely annoying and If i was playing competitively I would hook up my CRT no contest.
QUOTE:the argument can be made that lcd's are not bad, but crt's are still better.
why exactly are CRTs better? Everyone keeps saying they are better, but no one says why. I have been using the same LCD as taylor for over a year, and I don't honestly understand what the difference is. It's all in your minds...
#42 i've stated 2 reasons already why crts are better. no ghosting, and they have true black. But if you need to know why they're better for gaming its because they can run at high hertz rates which when matched with fps makes the game feel more smooth, also crts response rates are so low they aren't listed. even 2ms response lcds lag compared to crts. LCD are merely for looks there is no performance to be gained from them. These people defending LCD's are more than likely trying to justify their purchase. Even if you do buy the best LCD's out there and spend a ridiculous amount of money for it. My little old crt is still better :) and thats not opinion its better on paper, the only thing lcd's have going for them is compactness.
Perhaps people use their monitors for more than gaming? Higher end LCDs are now at the standard of being entirely suitable for semi-professional graphic design (once correctly calibrated which most idiots don't know how to do), they look a hell of a lot better with movies than CRTs (yay for CRT pixel blending?), and they draw considerably less power as well as produce less heat than CRTs.
unrest, perhaps it's not a matter of having to 'justify our purchase' but rather being practical that a LCD is a very suitable choice for your avg gamer who has a wide range of use for his/her computer than spending 20 hours a week gaming such as you most likely do. By all means, CRTs are best for gaming and professional graphic design, but most in the gaming scene don't do the latter. So really, it all comes down to what you do with your computer, how serious you are with games, and what your preference is with desk space and/or dual monitor setups.
One question I want to ask to you guys all saying how CRTs are "that much better" than LCDs.
Does it really affect your gameplay so much you'd rather sacrifice that much? Go to cypher's (#46) post...
But yeah, seriously I hope no one here just uses their computers/monitors to just game 10+ hours a day :X -- esp. with the amount of HD movies and TV shows you can stream/download :) -- yeah Heroes and Lost in 720p on a 24" is great :)

this was the main reason that i became interested in getting a crt.

You gotta be kidding me.
I didn't think so.
Have you used my Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP 24" which is 6ms?
Yeah, I didn't think so either.

Even if there is "ghosting in all LCDs", it's not noticeable enough to affect your gameplay or even your overall view/visual...
But I guess I can't convince someone who reads articles on websites and hasn't ever used one.
I'm going to assume that despite your means of sounding retarded in this subject, you made a mistake and meant over 2ms is bad for gaming.

I still play casually/somewhat competitively, but in addition what matters is I know a decent amount about hardware and technology in general...
i wish i had the money for a high end lcd. Im using the monitor i got free when i bought the comp im using 2.5 years ago - 16 ms 19" rofl

i still prefer my 21" sony trinitron CRT monitor.

if you want an more space so much then get a laptop. it saves so much space that you dont even need a computer desk.
