ive been using the mx310 for 4 years :D. ive only had to buy a new one once. :D i have 1 more for back up though :D not opened. no there is no way to lighten it...it does not come with any weights.
#9 i tried switching from a 310 to a 518 after my first one died and i couldnt do it...i returned it the next day and just ordered a new 310 here http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/St..
This is my favorite mouse in the whole world. I have not found a mouse like this, ever, that fits this perfectly in my hand. I also agree that this mouse is WAY underappreciated, it's an ambidextrous mouse, which also I think is why it's so comfortable for a lot of people, the contour on both sides just feels perfect. To me, this mouse is the perfect weight, every other mouse I have tried to use, I size it up with this mouse, they have either been too heavy or too light. The optical engine is the same as the MX300 and MX510, 400DPI without Logitech drivers, and 800 with, though I rarely ever installed them, 400DPI just feels "right". I also was a heavy gamer with a ball mouse when optical was just taking off, so maybe that is why I LOVE 400DPI for gaming, Photoshop and CAD, higher the DPI the better.
My right-click also just recently crapped out after 5 1/2 years, also because I have only used fUnc mousepads(rough side), my skates never wore out. I tried to fix the button, but it just wore out, you put more pressure on the right-click than you do the left-click. Was a heavy CS gamer, and in just the past year, I gave up PC gaming for a PS3, got UT3 for PS3 and while playing, my right-click finally died. I regret giving up PC gaming, so once I have saved up a couple grand to build a gaming rig that will last some years, I will be buying 2 or 3 of these mice to have around, I have tried the 510, 518, used various Razer mice, some Microsoft mice, but like you people, the 310 just doesn't feel like any other mouse out there.
LONG LIVE THE LOGITECH MX310!
EDIT: I was informed that the MX500 is 400DPI without drivers while the MX510 is 800 native. The 518 can switch between 400, 800, or 1600 without drivers. This may just be me, but for gaming, I think DPI is way over rated. Like I said, I was a heavy gamer with a ball mouse for while, and when I went to optical, I didn't see a huge difference in my accuracy. Whatever mouse you use, it's all about HAND CONTROL and the sensitivity you use. While yes, with a higher DPI, moving across the screen is smoother, but it doesn't feel natural for me. When the Razer Viper came out, I bought it, and used it for a while, general browsing and apps, there was a kind of "feel" with the higher DPI, but I couldn't get used to it with gaming.
#17 common problem with the 518, you can get the mouse replaced for free from Logitech, you just have to contact them about it and they'll tell you how.
