ok well i tried reformatting my friends computer cause its full of virus's etc. and when booting from disk at the beginning it says setting up files (something here) and use goes through a bunch of stuff , but then it crashes , and not on the same spot, it would be random like setting up files (usb device generic) or/ setting up files (Ethernet controller) and just keep freezing and wont let me go any further so i can delete the partition so anybody know what the problem is?
using a SATA hdd? if you do, you need to install SATA drivers when it says "press F6 to install 3rd-party drivers" or smth, because they're not originally included in XP.
not sure if this will help though, i've never had a SATA drive myself.
It can be any of those, thats causing the problem, try to test all those componets before formating again!
To test HD and MEMORY, get the so famous HIREN'S BOOT CD To test DVD and WINDOWS XP CD, just test HD and MEMORY first, if everything is alright with the MEMORY and HD and someting goes wrong then there is something wrong with the XP CD or the DVD! :D
You can pay a player to play source, but you can't make him like it.
Ok, first try this when you open up your comp you will see a little CMOS batter take it out for 30sec then put it back in then try it if it dosent' work and freezes 100% it is your HD

If it's freezing up during set up there might be a problem with your CD drive or the XP CD.

WINDOWS XP CD

That. It is most likely the disc. Don't listen to all these retards guessing like they know what is up.
