well why don't you just download a free version of linux, then install Wine from wineHQ, and using that and the proprietary drivers from your favorite video card company's selection of drivers, play on a more robust system, that requires less memory to run. The only problem is, is that without alot of complaints from customers who buy their cards, the companies selection of drivers are fairly generic, but I refuse to buy another version of windows.
xp has a limit on how many you can regester. chances are all serials you download will be used unless you get a cracked one. but only d0uchbags do that.
either see if a friend (large presumtion?) has a cd you can borrow (i believe 4 regestrations is the max) find a cheap one one ebay, or go download linux +whq.
as for which distrobution, try something like gentoo. keep in mind that some drivers are have not been recreated for linux, so do your reasearch before hand.
Basically, Find a torrent of Win XP find a blacklisted cd key and then you will get the windows genuine sh*t (windows will only work for about 3 days), you can easily bypass it by deleting a registry:
1. Launch Windows Task Manager. 2. End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager. 3. Restart Windows XP in Safe Mode. 4. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32. 5. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache. 6. Launch RegEdit. 7. Browse to the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify 8. Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents 9. Reboot Windows XP.
there you have it a free copy of windows xp/professional. Windows updates aren't important anyway, download zone alarm firewall and avg 8 (free) and as for a music player use vlc. I did this exact way and it worked for me, gl.
why dont you just get Windows 7 Release Candidate ? its better and performs better than windows XP SP3, and its free, download it off Microsoft's site...
This is really old so I take it the guy has an OS by now. Anyways I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit free and legally.
It lasts till June 2010 but will shutdown your PC every 2 hours in March 2010. The official release is supposed to be in October though so I think I'll just buy it before March.
xp serials have a registration limit...hmmmm...don't think so i've used the same key on at the very least 10 different machines, all of which booted normally, updated off microsoft.com and work until now. i do think this is suspicious (given m$), but not registry work arounds or anything out of the ordinary necessary to format, install and use those machines. so unless this key and the computers are being monitored or something, there's no registration limit.

If you are going to download an illegal copy, make sure you get the STUDENT edition. They expect there to be hundreds of copies per serial key, so you will be able to download all of windows updates and pass their WGA thing

It's fairly straightforward, look for a torrent with directions.
