Hi, I'm planning to buy an HD 4850 512mb video card. I'm not sure which version to buy, like from which manufacture.

some are cheaper, then some are faster, some are more quiet, some are better cooled; its up to you to decide which are most important

id go with visiontek, they have a lifetime warranty, they are like the EVGA of ati i think, but Palit, MSI an ASUS are all solid too

if you have bad luck with cards dying on you then go visiontek with their lifetime warranty. i have HIS for their great cooling solutions. ASUS and MSI are good too. XFX has joined the ATI brand and will be releasing cards soon.

Buy one with a custom cooler, the normal one isn't really that good.

#4 i obviously meant a company similar to EVGA (life time warranty, solid products) but working with ati

saphire, ASUS, MSI, visiontek, HIS are the only ones I would buy. I've heard bad things about a few gigabyte cards so I just avoided them in general.

thanks everyone, i think i found what i should be looking for.

#17 its just cheaper to get the 4850x2 than crossfire them

true, but right now I can only afford 1, later on i might get a 4870 and cross fire who knows. I need to know how much power i need for two cards.

4850 x 2 or 4850 +4870 crossfired in both cases

thanks

you can't crossfire two different cards. a corsair 650 or just the ocz gamexstream 700 will be enough for crossfire

actually bellieve it or not, the Palit versions of the regular HD4850 and the X2 edition own sapphire, diamond, msi and asus versions, and are considerably cheaper, you can check that on techspot or tomshardware, dont remember wich one atm.

my ASUS ATI HD Radeon 4850 just arrived last night. a lot of reviews we're saying due to ASUS' overclocking and poor heatsink to make up for it it dies within a week-month running @ 80C+ but so far i haven't been able to get it over 50C.

so far so good for the first day :P unlimited smokes in 1.6 = ftw.
