I need to know... what is the BEST video card for CS:S? As far as I know CS:S doesn't support dual-gpus, and I'm pretty sure ALL of the new cards are running dual-gpus (could be wrong). So all I need to know is what card will run CS:S the best, and please explain why it'll do so. :]
I was looking through the DFI's, but I've never heard of them in my life. Are they a trustworthy brand? I don't want my mobo to crap out on me in 6 months, and have to be stuck with it.
I don't really feel like paying the extra $80 for crossfire support seeing as how I'm only going to be using 1 video card, but is the only way to get a decent mobo is to have it come with SLI/Crossfre? I was thinking about going with this one:
Yeah, you probably missed my edit =) I also recommended that.
DFI's are pretty darn good, in fact some of their boards are probably the best. (Not all of them) The DFI P35 is definitely one of the best motherboards for a single card build.
The Gigabyte one is very good though, just not as good =)
i didn't check but the one harle posted is probably fine. 1000w is good if you plan on 3 sli or 4 crossfire, otherwise it just runs less power, but also much less efficiently than a psu that is more designed for the load you put on it. like if you have a 1000w that only uses 500w, it might still draw 600 or more watts, but a psu designed for only 550w will supply a lot closer to 500w. it'll save a ton of money on your electricity bill, not to mention costing only a quarter of the price
for video cards, these days you can't compare it just by stream processors or clock speeds. the 4870 is better than the 9800gtx, but the 800 stream processors doesn't make it 6 times better
Bad motherboard? I'm trying to be cost efficient with my mobo. I'm only gunna use 1 videocard (The only games I play are CSS and WoW. They only support 1 GPU), and that mobo has great reviews. At only $105 (after rebate) it's hard to beat.
I'm probably gunna save myself $20 and go with the E8400. It's only .16GHz slower :].
if you overclock you can go way past the e8500 anyway.
i wouldn't buy that board, an x48 would be great, but more expensive, although with the money you save on a psu it would more than cover it. otherwise a p45 would be better imo, single pci-e slot and better than the 750 line
my x1300 does the job well enough. imo you don't really need a super high-end card for css, unless you play at 1600*1200 with aa af and all the other needless stuff on...
Well I would get 100 FPS on my x850 XT, but the problem is whenever I get too close to an enemy, or I'm shooting at multiple enemies (this is on CSS) my FPS would drop below 20, making me incapable of seeing what the hell I'm doing.
dude way over kill you dont need sli/crossfire if your gona play wow and css ALL you need is a 4830 not the 50 the 30 i get 380 avrg fps with my 4850 with max af/aa you only need 100 even a 4830 ull still get over 200+ so ull be happy
#23 i know how MIRs work, i was looking at a different version
#26 maybe, but in the future it can't hurt to have a better card. and the resolution kills fps when you go for high settings. so maybe you get 300 on 1024x768 but if you tried it on 19x12 you would be ~100 maybe
LOL CSS AND WOW? 8800gt can easily do the trick :/ go for a nv based card , as ati card dont render source maps properly, or as ppl say, over render it. for eg. nuke upper lights coming from the glass ; u cant see ladder up at all. dust2 B tunnel again u cant see anything from ct side. amd somehow renders a LOT of dust in the tunnel. so stick to nv. 9800gt / 8800gt should EASILY do the trick. more imp, make sure ur cpu is above 3ghz. source games are cpu intensive. a 3ghz cpu with 8800gt can easily always give u 100 fps up im using 8800gt + e2180 Overclocked to 3.4 Ghz, and my average fps is 150-200 , in gunfire its around 120.
"i get 380 avrg fps with my 4850 with max af/aa you only need 100 " thats actually impossible :S Im running GTX 280 with 8 Gig dominator ram 790i Ultra 1600 psupply. Velociraptors. I run at 1680x1050 I get 350 fps average .. with everything max'd out.. its impossible dont sit her and lie to make urself feel special.. and if by "average" fps you mean a video stress test.. well thats nothing compared to gameplay..
#30 obviously you don't know much about processors. a 3ghz pentium will run it decently, but a 18ghz i7 will blow it out of the water. there is much more than pure speed, the family and cache play huge roles since every new intel cpu family is 20-30% better than the previous clock to clock. not to mention that a SINGLE core can run source so this is entirely different
# 37 .. no no thats not what i meant. i used to use a 3 GHZ p4 and it used to lag like hell. im talking SPECIFICALLY about C2D series only. in c2d , its recommended to get a proccy above 3Ghz or OC it to above 3Ghz for source based games like css and tf2 to get 100 fps up. no p4 or pd will do any good.. and ive yet to see i7 benched or used in source .
#40, what you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything, that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having listen to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
#42 billy madison ftmfw, and its so fitting here too.
if you have a good enough p4 or pd computer, you can run source fine. same with the old athlon single cores, and the weaker X2's. having a c2d helps, but if you are going to say that people with the original, the e6300 can't get 100 fps then you are out of your mind. clocked at 1.83ghz that thing was the cpu to have around 2 years ago. a beast when you bought it, and a beast if you overclocked it.

Here is what I'm planning to run with the card:

duh.
HD4870 If you can afford it.

The MSI one has 1GB memory while the VisionTek has only 512, yet the VisionTek is more expensive. Is that due to the faster memory clock?
#6 What mobo/psu do u recomend?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
Man that card is so sexy..
Also, I think you need to get a board that supports Xfire.. such as X38/X48/P45 boards

go fast its $110 after mir + free copy of CoD5
#5 if he wants to waste $250 on a 1000w psu (lol) i think he can reach into those pockets and find enough for a 4870.

it counts as one card so you shouldnt have as much problems as with say crossfire so
PZPZPZPZPPZPZ
its $140 when you add it to your cart, then a $30 mir
you dont need sli/crossfire
if your gona play wow and css

The one I linked you doesn't even support Crossfire, hopefully you didn't order it yet.
This is the one:

But this one from ASUS looks good too:

HE ALREADY BOUGHT EVERYTHING.

Pls none of you ATI fans come screaming with "OMG NO UR AN IDIOT" and ur bs.. cuz you and i both know nvidia > ati .. and GTX 295 > 4870 X2 :\
on my old video card. Going from 800 -> 1280 was about a 60 fps difference ~
but then again, that still seems far fetched lol
That's exactly what you're doing bro.
Here's a little review:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.as..
Lowest price for HD4870 without mail-in = 194.99$
Lowest price for GTX260 216 w/out mail in = 259.99$
I hope the drivers are really good because you paid 60$ for them.
Now go put yourself in the garbage.
i used to use a 3 GHZ p4 and it used to lag like hell.
