i went with the dual core because i have no real need for a quad core and id rather have higher clock speeds. the video card because i am not looking to play top of the line games on max settings. i want a budget card that gives a punch and is under $200. also i am not a fan of ATI. the mobo because i needed one that still supported ATA drives because i have 3 hard drives and a cd drive that are not SATA. id rather not upgrade to SATA if i dont have to.
also i should point out i am not looking to overclock. those days are behind me.
the video card i chose is basically the same except its $150 and comes with cod:waw. its actuallt a gtx+ but it isnt listed as such. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
your mobo only has one IDE port but i need 2 because i have 4 ATA devices. there were only 2 mobos that met that criteria. whats so bad about it anyway?
im #1 btw, guess this account is no longer banned.
ATI has let me down in the past. i started off as an ATI fanboy but ever since i got their 9800 Pro it was not a very good card at all. not to mention their control panel is complete garbage most of the time. also i have found that valve games (hl2, 1.6, tf2..etc.) run best on nvidia. i think nvidia is just simpler and their cards run great right out of the box without needing to switch between different drivers to find which one works best. got my first geforce 2 card and boom it was all over i was in love.
i get the same thing harle is seeing for the video card. hmmmm weird. you must be looking at the 49.99 instant savings. basically that is cod:waw they are subtracting it out of the price but then adding it back in as a separate gift for 49.99.
the mobo is not a huge deal because like i said all i need it to do is run my stuff at stock speeds as i am not going to bother oc'ing any of these parts. so unless the mobo is made out of cookie dough i dont see how it is all that bad if being used for stock speeds anyway.
thanks for all your input guys i really appreciate it. ive been out of the hardware loop for some time as you can see from my old system. i actually considered buying a 939 dual core chip because i already have the motherboard and ram ready to go. i didnt realize the older and more outdated components were the more they cost lol. standard ddr is like twice as much as ddr2. i figured id spend maybe $150 on the best 939 dual core chip and be good to go with maybe a video card upgrade.

if i see you at the next lan you are leaving in a body bag.
Just because the 9800 sucks, you assume ATi makes crap hardware.
7XXX gen / X1XX gen 7600GT > X1650 X1900 > 7900GT
8XXXgen / HD XXXX 8800GT > HD3870
But now It's in the 9XXX gen and it looks like this: HD4850 > 9800GTX HD4870 > 260GTX
Don't be a queer and go with what's best on the market at the moment, don't base your life on whatever the hell happened to you in the past, live in the present.
Let me tell you this, If both let's say, the HD5850 and GTX370 would be EXACTLY the same or VERY SIMILAR, I'd go with Nvidia.
It's just that ATi dominates the market at this time and I'm not a biased idiot like most the kids on this website.
well with the above components it will cost me under $500 to upgrade. the mobo is not that important just so long as the thing boots up. thats all i need. i dont need any fancy RAID configurations or voltage changes. also i do not plan on ever running in sli mode. so unless the mobo starts on fire when i turn it on i dont see the problem? why buy a premium motherboard if i dont plan on doing any customizing? doesnt fit a gtx260? i dont have a gtx260 problem solved. i made the mistake of buying my last motherbaord based on it being more "future proof". 5 years later here i sit with my outdated motherboard which i havent changed a thing except a graphics card.
i havent decided on the video card yet. im still researching. someone is a little bitter about fanboy. i wouldnt consider myself a fanboy at all. i just feel more comfortable with nvidia based on my experience and my money. why is that such a bad thing? if someone from ebay rips me off should i give them another chance and use them again? basically im going to get a card that isnt the best right now and more than likely upgrade it in like 8 months or so.
if i see you at the next lan you are leaving in a body bag.
why in the HELL, would you go nvidia, especially when you're on a budget?
4850 if you're actually gonna pay at least $115
Newegg has an Asus Radeon HD4850 512MB PCI Express Video Card for $165 - $20 coupon EMCABBDCA - $30 rebate = $115 with free shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
Also, if you're willing to spend $200,
go for the 4870
If you're willing to spend $450+
go for the gtx 295, even though it just came out, and its expensive as FUHQ. but it wont matter, since you're spending that much money on a video card anyways
My upgrade
AMD 4000+ 2.4ghz 1MB cache
1GB DDR
nvidia 256MB 6800GS
i am looking to upgrade for obvious reasons. i mainly game and burn dvds and surf the net. currently i am looking at getting the following:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W
MSI P7N SLI-FI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
i went with the dual core because i have no real need for a quad core and id rather have higher clock speeds. the video card because i am not looking to play top of the line games on max settings. i want a budget card that gives a punch and is under $200. also i am not a fan of ATI. the mobo because i needed one that still supported ATA drives because i have 3 hard drives and a cd drive that are not SATA. id rather not upgrade to SATA if i dont have to.

Also, I just had a look at the motherboard you want, the reviews are so bad..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductRevi..
Unreliable..
Can't even fit in a GTX260..
What a bunch of crap.
This, on the other hand:

Then why did you pick an SLI motherboard, and one with terrible reviews at that. You're a dumbass.
