So i just got my Samsung 931c today and as im playing cs the color on it is complete crap and going up against a wall and moving my mouse around makes the textures on the wall really blurry. I have a few screen shots of CT spawn on Dust2. I mean it could just be me, but every monitor i have used on this computer has completely fine with color and its never looked like that. I just plug in my CRT to see if it was my computer and the CRT had good color.
I just hooked mine up today as well.. Seems to be running smoothly. Those pictures you posted didn't really show me anything because I have been playing cs with it looking like that ever since I can remember... I guess I'm used to it?
QUOTE: install the monitor drivers use magic tune for the samsung monitor, download the correct one for your monitor and OS Use digital vibrance in the nvidia control panel
Your colours look the same as mine, I use a Benq fp93gx so similar to yours?
uhm...#1, #3 and #4, uhm.....you cant capture a screenshot of what hes actually seeing on his monitor. Thats why it looks ok for us, coz we have no problems with our monitors.
like #5 says, install the samsung monitor drivers(the CD u get with it)
#1 dont you understand that you cant make SS of what your monitor shows. the images are in good quality because of vga but not monitor. you should take a photo with a camera in order to show the real colors of your monitor, because all we see is the result of vga, not monitor.
btw, I had the same problem with colors with my 931c. This monitor is totally cRaP^^.
Yeah, i realized that after i posted the pictures that you cant see what i am seeing. I'm thinking it could be possible that it was refurbished and they didn't fix it quite well or something. I'm downloading MagicTune right now and see what happens
Directed toward givN, since i own a 931c as well, i know what youre takling about. those discolorations are from the combinations of color and gamma you use in the monitor. i just play using dynamic contrast. =]
Im going to start off by saying, the 931C is the best 19" LCD monitor ever made for gaming.
But.... samsung outsources their panels, so let me explain:
Buy a samsung monitor in the first 6 months of its release = you get a panel made by samsung, called an "S" panel.
After that period, the monitor has been reviewed very well across the board, everyone is raving about how good it is, so samsung outsources the panel production to a chinese company in efforts to save costs while still retaining "solid" quality. This would be your "A" panel.
At this time, if you were to go into a BestBuy or whatnot, its about a 50/50 split between A and S panels in the actual box.
After about a year, most of the "S" panels have been sold in the stores, so now its like 90% A, and 10% S. Now samsung is focusing on their next generation of LCD monitors, and could really care less about the 931C, so they outsource the production of the panel to a Taiwanese company, This panel is absolute garbage, the pixels bleed every where, if you change the angle of the monitor, you can see the contrast/brightness differences on a plain black background, every object has a fair bit of ghosting, and the colours are overly heavy on the blues or greens and not calibrated at all and look like crap on any game. This would be your "C" panel.
The 931C was the official monitor of WCG2006 (note, there was posts before asking hte players what they thought of the monitor, and all of them said it was simply amazing, but samsung is the head sponsor of WCG, so obviously those were genuine "S" panels).
That was basically 3 years ago, if you bought this monitor anytime during the past 2 years, you had basically no chance of getting a genuine Samsung panel. Dont believe me? Google it, or hell, you can phone a samsung support rep your self. They will confirm that after a period of time, they outsource the panel production to other companies (they wont confirm that those panels are garbage compared to the samsung one), and ask if there is anyway to buy the monitor direct from samsung, and they will say no.
The only way now to get a legit 931C is to buy a used one in hoping that the previous owner has a genuine "S" panel. Or hope for some reason that an event that is sponsored by Samsung has the 931Cs, and try to steal it or buy it off the rep t hat is there.
They did the same thing with the, 226BW, which was the best 22" widescreen ever made before they released the T220 (next gen, compared to the 226bw period), all the sudden people started getting crappy 226bw monitors, but didnt know why the one they played on a friends house, or the one the lan centre had were so amazing and crt like.
Now the T220 has been out for I believe a year, it wouldnt suprise me that they will start outsourcing the production of these because they are coming out with the next generation 2232RZ with 120 hertz.
Hope this clears everything up. Also, use the "dynamic contrast" option on your 931C. its the best it will look if you dont have a genuine "S" panel.
*note* it is impossible to tell what panel you will get before you buy the monitor, you have to open the box, hook it up, load the hidden service menu, take the serial number and type that is on there. Then google it and try to find a post on some site that tells you which serial numbers and types correspond to either an "S" "A" or "C" panel.
I my self have two 22" widescreen samsung monitors (226bw) and 1 is a "S" panel, while the other is a "C" panel, if i put them side by side running the same thing, the difference is night and day. However for normal computer use + web surfing (your parents), you will never notice it, but for gaming and movies and other things like that (for us) you for sure need a genuine samsung panel.
Also givN you said you just got it yesterday right? Return it right now, stop wasting your time.
You for sure got a "C" panel, go buy a different LCD.
If you are looking for a 19" 4:3 ratio, from personal use and reviews, the Samsung 920BM is very good and cheap. It originally was the platform for the 931C, but Samsung wanted something with more flash (example: the piano finish plus silver stripe and glossy base of the 931C, while including the highest contrast ratio and 2ms GTG) to be the flagship monitor of that era.
So the 920BM was knocked down a notch, but it is a monitor that Samsung still produces, meaning it is a genuine "S" panel. However to people who know a lot about LCDs, it will scream "bad". First off it has a 5ms response time and it has speakers included in the monitor (they are hardly noticeable, they replace the silver stripe of the 931C in shape and size).
However if you were to put this monitor side by side with any good 2ms LCD and run a program that tests for ghosting, the results are pretty much identical. I know it says 5ms, but when you play games, test it with those programs, or watch fast paced clips, it responds like a 2ms, all while you arent playing russian roulette with the multiple panels that could be in a box of other samsung monitors.
It costs less while performing the same as a genuine "S" panel, you cant go wrong. Other than this, I would say just buy a 22" widescreen with a 2 ms response time.
Yeah i'm sending it back i decided i was going to do this yesterday as i tried doing everything possible to fix it, but nothing worked except for dynamic contrast which made it look better for the colors, but the monitor still ghosted. I might look into buying a 22" ince widescreen, but i'm most certainly going to stick with my 19" CRT for now because im so sick of all the problems that i have with LCD's i buy.
Thanks for the info it really helped out alot and i now know why this monitor is such a POS.
#17, you most likely have an "s" panel thats actually made from samsung, anyone who has a genuine samsung panel would agree with you instantly, that monitor is absolutely amazing.
but if you dont get an "s" panel, there is no hope.
my samsung 931c which has a WCG sticker on it yet don't know what panel, has possibly the same issues you've mentioned, like a blury ghosting effect. Only way for me to fix it is to turn RTA off.

Basically wherever dark spots are there is discoloration like crazy.
I have digital vibrance set at medium high, no gamma, i've been trying to tweak my color correction but nothing is working..
If someone could help that would be awesome and i would greatly appreciate it.
Seems to be running smoothly.
Those pictures you posted didn't really show me anything because I have been playing cs with it looking like that ever since I can remember... I guess I'm used to it?
Wish I could help.
