If you are gaming at 1920x1200 or higher you might wanna get 1gb version of it which usually costs 10-15 bucks more. Choose the brands harle told u because they are good.

Using a sapphire right now, has been running real well for a few weeks.

Sapphire is your best bet. HIS ICEQ series are good too. The other manufacturers are about the same. (Asus, MSI, XFX, Gigabyte)

#8 the gtx 260 is lower in performance compared to the 4870, and its on par with gtx 280.

#9 you really have no clue if you say gtx 260 is lower in performance than 4870

Actually, you have no clue since the 4870 does provide anywhere between equivalent to noticeably superior performance compared to the 260 gtx, and it comes with a cheaper price tag.

maybe at lower resolutions they are equal or maybe even 4870 performs better but if you are using 1920x1200 or higher gtx 260 outperforms 4870

#13 quit being an nvidia fan boi. at 1920x1200 both cards perform the same. depending on the game you could see small difference of 5-8fps, in favor of either card. is that really out performing? no.
at lower resolutions the 4870 beats the 260 and can be compared to the 280.

it's a tossup since the ati 4870 uses dx 10.1, but 260 gtx core 216 supports physx. Can't go wrong with either card really. If you wan to save more money, there's a good ati 4850 card running at $110 by Sapphire (its the VaporX.....very good cooling..not the crappy cooler)

Sapphire by far. I've been with ATi since my 9200SE. Had Sapphire everything since then. Sapphire has been making ATi cards since they were introduced. Their cooling is very reliable, and they don't expose the chips, which makes for a really clean look. I've also been told HIS has had many positive reviews as well.

If you want the 4870 to run cooler just up the fan speed in CCC to around 30%. Mine idles at 50C. Also you might want to take it totally apart once a year to clean out all the dust. Have had mine for about a year and just cleaned it and it dropped 20C. (also added as5 though)
