Can anyone tell me what processors are available to run on the Satellite A205-S5000? One guy mentioned it would run a dual core, but found no evidence to confirm that. I would hate to buy a processor and find out it won't work.
do you have a celeron for that laptop? i think the socket type is socket 479 and the fsb is 533? you would need to find processors that fit socket 479 and have fsb of 533mhz. and if thats the case you wont have many processors that will fit, including the new dual cores. at most an upgrade would be an pentium m processor, which is pretty much a p4.
i was pretty much right then. no they dont make dual cores to fit that size. if you get a pentium m ( same as Pentium 4) and turn hyper threading on, it is virtually a dual core.
celeron is a cut down crappy processor. pentium m is a "full processor", with more options like HT.
your celeron 540 is actually a cut down allendale core 2 duo processor. but it doesnt mean it is better. it is also "newer" then the pentium m although it is lower in performance.
Toshiba satellite Processor
Thanks

Processor and Chipset
Intel® Celeron® Processor 540
1.86GHz, 1MB L2, 533MHz FSB
Mobile Intel® GL960 Express Chipset

Whats the difference between Pentium M and Celeron?

pentium m is a pentium 4 with lower clock speeds.
Pentium M 770 2.13GHZ 2M 533
Pentium 4-M 2.0GHz/400Mhz socket 478
would work
Pentium 4-M 2.0GHz/400Mhz socket 478
is socket 478 not 479...one pin makes a huge difference
