Is there a way to resize the window when running Counter-Strike in windowed mode? I see that you can only increase the size of the window by changing resolution. I would like to use the 800x600 resolution but the ability to resize it. You can maximize it, but the image becomes corrupted.

The reason I'm asking is because I just purchased a Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ and it only runs 120Hz at native resolution (1680x1050). If I try to run at 800x600, even running through ATI image scale, it will only display at 60Hz. There is no way to force the refresh rate like you can on a CRT. If I can just increase the size of the window while running at 800x600, that would be great.

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/9168/c..
This is CS:S running at windowed mode @ 800x600. You can't change the size of the window unless you increase the resolution in game.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7417/c..
See how the window is larger at a higher resolution? I'd like the window to be this or larger, but at a resolution of 800x600.

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/7892/c..
Here are the refresh rates that are available while at 1680x1050.

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/2306/css..
Notice how I can not select 120Hz when running at 800x600.

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/8431/css..
Here I have GPU scaling enabled. But when I do play at full screen @ 1680x1050 120Hz, the monitor forces it at 60Hz according to the information from the LCD display properties. (No it does the same thing in 1.6 as well)

Yes, sorry I should have added that. I have also used RefreshForce and the LCD still goes to 60Hz.

Never mind, I got it. The problem is ATI drivers. I reinstalled my old 8800GT and I can get 120Hz on any resolution that I play on. If anyone is deciding to buy this monitor, make sure you get an Nvidia card as the ATI drivers will not allow you to use 120Hz on any lower resolutions besides 1680x1050.

I have an ATI card with my 2233rz and I get 120hz on 800x600.

It has to do with EDID, which is basically a chip that is detected by Windows that doesn't allow its specifications to be exceeded. If you're running Vista or Windows 7 you will run into this problem.

Reforce does work for Windows XP however, as EDID is not forced by XP.

There is a way around it however. There are 2 pins that you can pull out from your dual-link DVI cable. Just google "fix EDID detection" and it should bring up a few different articles about it. I haven't personally tested it, so try at your own risk.

Good luck :)

Why would you run CS:S at 800 X 600? It doesn't benefit you in any way with how the game plays, or how the shots land, so there's no reason to do it in the first place. Just curious.

It's the resolution that I've always used and I feel the most comfortable with it. I've tried others but I do not like them as much. Consistency is key.

Mr_Miyagi did the monitor come with a list of all available resolutions and refresh rates it can display? Or do you know of a site that has that info? I can't find the information anywhere online. Even the manual you can download for the monitor from Samsung doesn't contain in.

I'm thinking about buying the monitor and would love to know all resolutions it can truly display at 120Hz beforehand. It would be awesome if you could find out for me (and others :p) while you're using your Nvidia card. If you don't already know you can find out by right clicking on your desktop > personalize > display settings > advanced settings... under the Adapter tab click on 'List All Modes' and it will tell you every single display mode you can display. The steps are slightly different on Windows 7 but I can't tell you exactly as I'm on Vista at the moment. It will look something like this on Vista http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/th.. .

Thanks for any help you or anyone else can offer!

I called Samsung's tech support. The monitor only officially supports 1680x1050@ 120hz. All other resolutions supported are only supported at 60hz.

The monitor did not come with a list of resolutions that it could display, but yes, it supports every resolution @ 120Hz up to 1680x1050 after installing my Nvidia card.

http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3552/l..

I could only get 120Hz @ 1680x1050 on my ATI due to EDID as mentioned earlier. If you are running Win XP, it will not matter if you have Nvidia or ATI. However, if you have Vista or Win7, I suggest a Nvidia card as many (like myself) are having problems displaying lower resolutions @ 120Hz with ATI. Some are lucky though and able to play lower res @ 120Hz with ATI.

The monitor drivers do not do anything but allow Windows to recognize that it is a SyncMaster 2233RZ monitor. It does not effect the refresh rate or resolution.

But it is weird how there is little to no information about the monitor and resolutions. Hopefully this can help people out making a decision. If you have any question, feel free to ask and I'll try to help.

120hz at any other resolution other than 1680x1050 is not officially supported by Samsung according to their tech support.

Does it work? Yes, but don't tell Samsung during an RMA if you break it, because you will be violating the terms of service and won't get a replacement.

It doesn't actually run at 800x600 @ 120Hz. What it does is image scale. It's still 1680x1050 @ 120Hz, but the picture size is 800x600. (It's the same thing essentially so it won't break the monitor as it's running at native resolution)

Good point Miyagi, monitor settings does always say what the native res is. Good call :)

And Takeshiii, yes it is true 120hz :)

Thank You for the reply Mr_Miyagi. That was exactly what I was looking for.

So you're saying there will be black borders surrounding the "image" (aka the application in full screen mode you are running at the lower resolution... or your desktop etc.) when running at resolutions lower than 1680x1050?

#24, you don't have to, you can choose either aspect or wide (like jp777cmoe's). I prefer to use aspect. Here are some pics of mine. It's about the same as playing on a 21" CRT.

And here is one showing that I'm playing at 1680x1050 @ 120Hz but scaled to 800x600. (It's the exact same thing as actually play at 800x600)

Dudes. Im having problems with this screen.
Ive recently bought de 2233RZ and i have a 4890 1gb.

Im a counter-strike player so native resolution is not for me with my game

My ingame resolution is 640x480.

When i got it i put freq 120 in the launch options it ran fine but stayed at 60hz

I installed reforce didnt work and crashed with freq 120 - 100.
I installed refreshlock and it also crashed at freq 120 - 100

I've tried changing the dvi port to no success. All it does is crash.
I really need to fix this screen, not exactly a cheap way to get a 60hz screen. if i was going for something like that i would have gotten a normal lcd with 75hz and 2 ms.

Can anyone help me?
I keep reading that its imposible with Ati? i dont understand why.
Ive tried as some said with 800. but it also crashes.

Also im not sure how to re-scale as MR MIYAGI did.
I've tried everything. Ima cry soon hahah .

Can anybody tell me how to get my lovely 120hz on my resolution or at least 800?
How do i rescale it if that does not work.

Cant really afford to sell my grafic card to buy 295 or 285 right now. So id need to get this fixed, hopefully..

Please guys.. any help is apreciated.

just curious does a 120hz LCD look and feel as smooth as a 120 CRT ?

Hey guys,

I have this monitor (2233RZ) and I'm having some serious problems.
I've been using 1680x1050 for a while now and really like it. CS looks great/amazing. However I am trying to make the switch to 800x600 (using fixed-aspect). The problem is that it just looks soooooo bad. Obviously I know 8x6 will never look as good as 1680x1050, but something just doesn't seem right. Models in the distance are very blurry/hard to see and the game just doesn't look right. I've spent hours messing with 3d settings to try and correct this. If I apply anisotropic, it helps a little but then some other aspect is affected (models look sharp, but the whole game has a blurry 'sense' to it). If I apply anti-aliasing, it helps a little but yet again something else doesnt look right, and so on and so on. I really want to use this lower res (fragging/spraying is so0o0o much better & easier) but I cannot get it to look at least DECENT.

Take this video for example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW8aZM4w4cM

EG is all using the 2233RZ and as far as I can tell they are all using fixed aspect (black bars- maybe not all but most are). When I look at this video of them playing cs on this monitor, it looks extremely better than on my machine, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. (my GPU is a 8600GTS so that cant be the problem).

What the hell am I doing wrong? I've messed with every single 3D setting...

grrrRRrRrRRr plz help!

eg plays 4:3 res.

and it looks normal. i play on a 26'' monitor, in 640x480 (4:3 format).
this is what it looks like: http://zpliskin.com/pview.php?action=full..

i also don't use any anisotropy or anti-aliasing.

that's what i do to force 120hz with ATI card,

got to ATI Catalyst Control Center, click the monitor u need to change, click Attributes, at Monitor Attributes, untick Use Extended display identification data (EDID) or driver defaults, change Maximum refresh rate to the value u wanted, u can now enforce monitor HZ and it will actually work.

#35 what driver version and Operating system are you using?

Cuz the only spot I see EDID is for color

Ati Catalyst Control Center, Digital Panel DVI and Avivo color. Thats where I find something that says EDID. Nothing for EDID under the attributes tab.
