i installed the same drivers i had back when i had xp onto windows 7 and now i only get 85hz. i used to get 120hz on windows xp but on windows 7 i only get 85hz. i also have a CRT. D:<
your monitor must have different freq for every resolution if it is a good crt i think it will work on 1024x768/120 hz
so to do this u have to set the resolution on 1024x768 and then uncheck the box where it says " show only supported freq"(or something like that) and then choose 100 or 120 ; whatever u like
you just uncheck the box where it says "hide refresh rates my monitor can't support". The Samsung Syncmaster 955DF had this problem it supporst the refresh rates it just doesn't list them right. also launch commands can force it.
you have to pull out a pin from your monitor cable to disable EDID and be able to force custom refresh rates with programs like powerstrip or reforce google vista edid fix it'll turn up in the first few hits with pictures
that PIN-trick didn't even work for me, although I'm using latest nvidia drivers. did work when I was using earlier nvidia drivers though... annoying as hell
I had been using the pin trick on VIsta and early Win7 builds, but the latest NVIDIA drivers let me create custom resolutions with any refresh rate. I use it to force my LCD to 75hz instead of 60hz.
The settings I used for my LCD will not work for a CRT however.
I've had this same problem since upgrading to windows 7. Never had a problem using 120 hz with XP. Reforce doesn't work and setting up a custom resolution still does not get me above 85 hz.
Make sure you have the drivers installed for your monitor, otherwise it wont list the correct refresh rates... (That applies for XP and Vista and I haven't used Windows 7 Yet so forgive me if there is some new issue with 7 and refresh rates)
After about 3 more hours of researching today I have finally found a solution that is working for me. Go to your nvidia control panel and create a custom resolution just like many other forums have suggested BUT what they fail to tell you is you have to use the GTF format under the timing section as opposed to AUTOMATIC or DMT. This has worked perfectly for me as I am now able to run the same refresh rates that XP was capable of running. I hope this helps someone...
Monitors hz and Windows 7
thanks #2 for at least a hint towards the right step. :D
