well considering they are both better stats than my desktop which can play the new games on high settings without significant lag or noticable lag, I assume they would perform well.
#6 Except working with laptops is a huge pain in the ass. It's not a fun deal at all. The way these manufacturers design their screw sets I feel like they're just trying to mess with service center employees as a joke.
The i7 should be one quick laptop. I just hope you don't plan on hauling them around too much, 7.26 pounds + the weight of the charger and mouse will get annoying quick.
Get the second option. the i7 in that notebook is very fast and turbo mode is great when you're gaming. You might want to consider getting a notebook cooler as I've read from multiple forum threads that it does get quite hot after a few hours of gaming.
I would consider waiting for the Arrandale cpus to come out in notebooks because by then, the i7 notebook prices should go down quite a bit.
Last of all, as #8 said, the notebook is heavy, so if you're going to carry around this notebook a lot, I would consider other notebooks such as the dell studio xps, which is a pound lighter (has a less powerful gpu: ati 4670).

basically i'm looking at a desktop replacement notebook. in holidays and vacations i'd be able to take it back home - no decent pc there - and have all the goodies in it :D
my gf just bought a nice netbook, and she owns an acer aspire that i can now use pretty much any time i want for school or whatever.
#9 about this drop in price, how low would it go? the way i see it, it's a pretty sweet deal as of now, both from asus and newegg! also, how long would one have to wait, approximately?

After January the new Arrandale cpus will come out. If you can't wait that long then just buy that Asus notebook from newegg. Since you say you're looking at a desktop replacement notebook, the Asus notebook should fit your needs quite nicely.

price drops will probably be around 50-100 dollars. Again, if you don't feel like waiting that long and want to have a powerful quad-core then just buy the Asus notebook.
The Arrandale cpu again is a dual-core, but has 4 threads instead of just two. It'll be just as good for gaming, will run cooler when gaming, and notebook will have a longer battery life.

as long as the laptop doesn't shut down due to overheating i don't really care, 99% of the time i'll use it at home, either here or at my folks'...which i suppose also minimizes the short battery life problem. i'll look into buying a stand/cooler solution as well.
well, looks like that'll be my next computer :D

keep in mind that i7 is a mobile version, you aren't going to get as much clock speed. although it's still a banging chip so it'll be amazing regardless
k, so i've been doing some research and turns out that the G51J-A1 from asus got some big competition in the form of the sager 8690...
the latter is a bit more expensive (~200), but comes with a much better cooling solution and a better graphics card...both of which help its longevity on the sense of the laptop lasting longer due to lower temps and performing better when squared up with future laptops, IMO.
the thing is, it seems the G51J-A1 has been worked on to run cooler than the previous laptops of the series (for example, asus doubled the heat pipes on the cpu). if that's really the case, maybe asus will provide better cooling solutions on possible future variants of the G51J series, since better hw will demand better cooling solutions...right? that might make a hell of a laptop, running cool if properly setup / undervolted and for a neat price, specially after the supposed price drop on january...
damn money, so hard to earn! otherwise i'd be buying it without giving the purchase this much thought . . . .

# 20 You have the right to remain silent because your opinion & thoughts don't mean SH*T to me and/or are invalid.
And no, what I mean with that is that he needs to find the best possible deal but he shouldn't look in too many areas outside MSI or Alienware BECAUSE they're optimized for games. (He clearly told us he wants to play games on this laptop) so please don't even try.
Thank you, good bye, much love and have a lovely day further.
right so an Alienware with an i7, 160m, 4gb ddr3 and 500GB HDD that is worth $2,000 is better than an Asus with the same specifications but worth $1,000?
msi has some decent laptops, but i feel like alienware is overpriced as it can be...and this asus series is designed for games as well, what with asus' "republic of gamers" and all that
i looked into some msi laptops, but this particular asus one grabbed my attention right away. i loved the design, the keyboard seems top notch, nice high res, awesome specs, good price for bang and it's getting nothing but good reviews and praise!

If you're going to be playing fps games a lot with the laptop, you might want to wait for the G51J-SZ028V to come out in another month or so. Its the same specs as the i7 g51j listed above, but with a 120hz screen (+blu-ray).
ignore that...the ati 4670 is much better than the ati 4570. It must be a typo or something. If not, probably driver issues with that particular game maybe or they just tested the lame benchmark test and didn't actually play in a legit 24 or 32 man server. that's my guess.

i7 will be far more beneficial in the future than the C2D, what with the extra threads and such
i have an asus laptop and it's still great. M50 series. you wont be disappointed with these new ones i'm sure

a bit too expensive for me atm though. ;(
have fun with it if you end up buying!
