I get blue (on dark) and yellow (on light colors) artifacts all over my screen. The monitor also flashes on and off. Usually for less than a second but quite frequently, sometimes for over 10 seconds but when the monitor comes back to life, all the artifacts are gone. Sometimes the thing flashes even without artifacts. It can go for weeks without any problems, then have a day filled with artifacts,
I previously had an 8800gts but it fked up and I replaced it with an ATI 4870. Artifacting on both of the cards. The 8800gts was mildly overclocked, but I removed the oc once the problem started, didn't help.
This happens on XP and win7.
Doesn't seem to be a temp issue.
I've also had monitors breaking down on me. After 6 months VX922 wouldn't start, went from green to orange light right after powering it.
Viewsonic 19" ws stopped working too, couldn't get the dvi signal iirc.
I built the computer myself in fall '07. Specs: e6750@3.0ghz OCZ 600w 4gb gskill ddr2-800mhz gigabyte p35-dq6 x-fi sc WD 250gb, samsung 500gb and 1TB
P.S. Yesterday, I found out that my 250gb hdd (the one with windows) has bad sectors. It had also been making some clicking noises whenever I was opening a folder with lots of files. I changed some power management settings a week ago and I haven't heard any clicking since. Dunno if this is relevant.

I would normally jump all over this, even with the trolls interjecting when they can. But I'm in training all week and the rest of my time is on borderlands.
Sorry, best advice is to switch out each piece one by one. The hard drive with bad sectors needs to go, that means the arm is destroying the surface one scrape at a time, and it'll go quick.
You try different resolutions? You forcing it to any non standard hz and brightness?
90% of the time it's the card or the drivers for artifacts. But if you're getting this in 2 different operating systems and I guess with different drivers, I'd hope. Then it's got to be hardware. So start switching pieces out 1 by 1, I'd guess power would be the hardest to do so keep it to last.
