I already have a HD and a dvd rom. Also I have a 500W thermaltake Power supply. Would that be enough for this build or should I stick with the new antec? 829.94
I was originally trying to build a $600 comp. So if anyone knows how to make this comp cheaper or has advise on the the build itself I would much appreciate it.
it's good.. but for the price, definitely not like harle said.
first things first, 850w is WAY to much power, you'll maybe use half of that. you're 500w thermaltake PSU would be fine for this psu.
an antec 1200 is also not the best choice for a $600-$800 build. i suggest the antec 300 illusion or the CM Rc-690, the A300 is about $60 while the rc-690 is bout $85. both are great though the 300 has better cooling.
mobo aint that bad.
the gpu is not the best choice. you should get the 5770 because it's cheaper, has better power consumption, DX11, EyeFinity, future proof and is faster.
just switch those up and you'll probably bring your price down to $650 or so.
Thanks Harle and Elko for the advice. I was hoping to hear from you 2 in this thread. OK so I changed a few things and got the price down to $695. I took out the power supply, but was wondering if I should keep that one because my old one isn't crossfire ready.
I'm going with the Antec 1200 because my last case I bought was cheap and ran very hot with 1 fan...I didn't know what I was doing when buying it. So I'm going to get the 1200 so I can keep for a while and keep my comp cool with its 5 plus fans. If I don't go for this 1200 I will get the 9 hundred which will save me about $60
I actually upgraded the PSU to the 965 - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor Model HDZ965FBGIBOX. I could save $20 tho if I go for the 955. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
I took your advise Elko and changed my gpu to a 5770 - XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - I noticed that this is a 128 bit and the 4890 I had was a 256 (big deal?) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
Also went with different ram - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
If you guys have any other advise keep it coming. I'm open for anything. This is my first time building alone. Last one a friend pretty much just picked everything out and said order that. I didn't know much at all at that time and this time around I know more than I did, but can still use all the help I can get. Thanks guys.
you won't need crossfire, unless you want to, but with your price range it's not really recommended. so stick with that 500w PSU.
well the antec 300 Illusion is also a great case, it has PLENTY of fans + great air flow, and suits your price range. the 1200 is a bit too much, 900 is the most i would go for.
i really don't see a big reason why to buy the 965 over the 955 since it's just clocked 200mhz higher and you could easily over clock past that with the 955 and its $20 cheaper. i'd stick with the 955 since i doubt the 965 has much better benchmarks.
that mobo is great :) no point in going for a crossfire ready PSU if you're mobo only has 1 pci-e 2.0 slot, so yeah just stick with this mobo and the thermaltake PSU.
memory looks fine.
if you really want to get the 965 then i suggest you switch the case to an antec 300/900 it'll definitely be worth saving that extra money. a 1200 is for a build that is SLI and stuff.
nah, the 5770 will easily run any game available, maybe not at 60fps in games like crysis and stuff but it'll at least get 30 there :) but.................. it could be more future proof if you'd prefer to add another 5770 in there, i'd rather suggest you just upgrade your gpu in 2 years or so. it'll be cheaper.
IMO get the Antec 902 and go with the 955. The 902 is $10 more but comes with dust filters on the front fans, the fans speeds are easier to adjust. The case is also black inside and out which makes even my puke colored p5b-E board look nice.
also this is the power supply I will be using... is it going to work with the video card? the power supply doesnt have a pcie connector. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=..
So are you saying it would be better if I went with an I5??? I just went with AMD because my last one was an AMD and didn't have any problems with it. If you're thinking I5's what kind of build could you do for around 650.... dont need a HD or DVD rom
Awww.. don't stop caring. People need your advise around here, but anyways thanks for doing some research for me. I think I'm actually going to go with the 955 I think, but if you are that confident with the 950 maybe I will do that.

Go browse the old build threads from like a months ago and search for either my builds or elko's builds.
There are plenty of fantastic builds here:

Good luck and post back for final confirmation once you get something better =]

I wouldn't really go with AMD unless you're going for the X2 550 or X3 720.
If you think that's too risky then you can always get a i5 build.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp..
I take back what I said it's competitive with the Intels, AMD dropped their prices since I stopped caring about hardware stuff..
So yea 965/i5/i7 all have the same value but the unlocked 550 is still the king =]
Also I forgot to mention but your 500w Coolermaster power supply won't be enough.
2) Flash to BIOS version F2C
3) Unlock extra cores
4) ?!?
5) Profit
As far as me not caring. I don't even go on Gotfrag anymore since it's pretty much dead.

It'll last you until his next build though I guess and it's a decent combo deal.
His PC will use more power than that at load. (which will make his computer freeze/crash)
Plus he'd need an adapter for the PCI-e connector, just not worth it.
in that case.. definitely don't stick with that PSU
