Same sensor, both should work better than xai since steelseries f'd up the sensor with their "programming". The main question is: which one is better? Qpad costs way more but is there really that big of a difference in quality? Has anyone tried both of these or then just one of these and can compare it to xai for example?
A tad more acceleration than other mice equipped with 9500 (so it has to have something to do with all the stuff steelseries put to it). Macros doesn't work well. Setting cpi to somewhere between 360-470 actually gives you 520cpi. Buttons are a bit too stiff but that's just an opinion matter. Needs new mouse feet etc small things. Doesn't work well with cloth pads (even though my second xai worked well on cqk+ mym edition when my first xai didn't make a single move on it). Sensor goes crazy sometimes.
I just think that xai was a good attempt but failed on some things (which all combined makes it unplayable for me).
Shape is good and the coating they use on top of the mice is definately the best I've ever played with. Doesn't make your hand sweat like other mice do and it grips well.
I'm not saying it's a bad mouse but for me (I don't like hard mousepads) it's a no-go and was going to try if qpad or ace works better. Been reading a lot of stuff about qpad 5k and qpad ct and thinking about them combined. Salty prices though =/
Any source or proof on the "more accel with the Xai than with other A9500 mice" thingy, cause that would be new to me?
The only real special thing about the SS version of the A9500 is ExactAim (adjustable general correction), the rest is done by the MCU.
Fair enough that you don't like Xai because of the liitle things (I love mine :D) but I can't really help you cause I didn't try one of them. I would say go for the one which fits your hand better. If you don't like the ceramic feet of the Ace (very low friction) you can look at the Cyber Snipa Silencer, same mouse but with teflon feet.
As a side note both mice aren't really made by Ace or QPAD themself, but that doesn't really matter.
It may look the same but when you look closely, G9x acceleration changes from around 95% to 105% from the whole spectrum where Xai goes from 95% to 105% in less than 1m/s and after that point it's going to be 100% to 108% so it has more positive acceleration on higher speeds than G9x.
The ace edge is the same mouse as the Ozone Smog I believe with a different sensor (I heard the smog uses the same as the logitech's). Anyhow, that mouse seems to be discontinued due to 'technical issues' which I don't know the specifics of? Could it be something on the mouse, or was there just a flaw on Ozone's edition? Might want to take a look into that, otherwise looks fantastic I would have loved to have purchased one myself except I have no way of getting one in the USA.
The G9x was tested with the original release firmware, the ADNS-9500 wasn't officially anounced at that point and afaik the specs weren't even final yet. It doesn't show real acceleration, only some fluctuation, which btw other laser sensors from Avago also shows but all the comments from truthworthy people say the same thing: both have the same acceleration. So you can expect similar acceleration with all the A9500 mice.
Have you considered the Mionix Naos 5000, cause you seem to want a ergonomic mouse? They will also release the Naos 3200 in july: cheaper, lighter (no wheight tuning system) and the good old ADNS-3080 (MX518, DB, etc.).
@siluro
Jep, both mice are the same and both have the same A9500 Sensor but the Smog seems to have a glossy finish. There is also the Prestigio PMSG1 and most likely some other.
I wouldn't say I was looking only for an ergonomic mouse. Xai has been the best shaped mouse I've ever tried. I was just looking for an alternative for avago 9500 since it can be a good sensor but it just didn't work with xai. But it it's going to be the same with every 9500 out there, then I just have to buy Xai again and toss my cqk to the fireplace and get a hard pad.
Looks like mionix and qpad orders the cases from the same manufacturer :D
I'm not a huge fan of 3080. Prediction is horrible and the sensor is a lot grainier (like using the mice in a sandbox) compared to f.e. ime 3.0. Can't even play with mx518 since it feels like 125hz microsoft even though you've overclocked mx to 500 or 1000.
I thought all the problems combined made it unplayable for you?
I don"t like hard pads either but I never had a problem with my Xai on clothpads, I usually play on a Talent and just recently I tried a Zowie G-TF, QcK Heavy and Mionix Sargas, no problems allthough I admit that my hand-o-meter might not be the best. ^^
PS: I doubt it's just the cases that are 3rd party. ;)
Yeah it is unplayable for me unless I buy some sort of hard pad like 9hd (which is definately out of my comfort zone) or black qpad ct maybe? (heard it should work with it, but I doubt it matches my needs as a low sensitivity user) And I would just have to get used to the stiff buttons, and hope that ss releases new firmware and software update soon. I read somewhere that avago is also trying to find a solution for the acceleration problem but that could just be a rumour for all I know. Maybe they are scared that major mice companies won't buy sensors from them anymore if all the people are complaining about them.
I'll try to find my black QPAD|CT and as I said, take a look at the Talent. Did you also test your Xai on a more plain cloth pad or just on the QcK MYM because technically coloured pads are not optimal for the Xai?
The accel. probllem can only be solved by Avago, allthough SS could do a most likely not really well working workaround. I know that they are aware of the problem and I guess they are trying to find a solution but there are also other things they work on.
I have the feeling that we will only get an update for the Xai if Avago solves the problem, doesn't seem like SS cares that much about the other problems.
Bought myself an Edge 3200 from Sweden and my opinion is that is much better than the Ozone, Cyber and Prestigio versions. One reason is that the Ace version doesn't have glossy finish, which prevents sweating and gives more confort in hand. Another reason is the large amount of weight. I like my mice heavy and the Ace Edge 3200 is just fine. Another reason is the lighting effects which is available only on the Ace and the Cyber versions, but the Cyber version lacks other stuff. In fact, the first mouse was the Ace version, but, since it was available only in Scandinavia, other companies made versions for their part of the world. For example, the Smog from Ozone is the asian version, the Prestigio PMSG1 is the european version and the Cyber Snipa is the australian version, but they're all available all over the world, which Ace Edge 3200 isn't. So, this is another reason why I consider my mouse better.
It has the Avago 9500 like the other versions of it and like the Qpad|5k, Mionix Naos 5000 and SteelSeries Xai. The 5k is very very similar to the Edge, even when it comes to price, but personaly I like the Edge more. The Naos 5000 is another story which I never had a chance to "hear", while the Xai is a very crapy mouse. I read a lot of reviews of the mouse and have a lot of friends and 3 out of 5 people complain about the crapy "programming" that SteelSeries done to the Avago 9500 pure performance sensor and I find its price way to high and its problems way to big for a pretentious and high-demanding gamer. Though, I never had the chance to experience a Xai myself and probably never will, since the negative feedbacks from the reviews and my friends are enough for me to be convinced.
As a conclusion, I think the Ace Edge 3200 is the best mouse from those above mentioned. If you have the chance to buy it, don't hesitate. If you don't have the posibility to get yourself an Edge, go for the Qpad|5k. It's worth it.
Later Edit: Forgot to mention about the skatez of the mice. SteelSeries Xai has teflon feet which get pretty F**ked up after some months and require more money to buy new ones. The 5k has, of course, qpad (plastic) feet, which I personaly don't like either, but they last longer than the teflon ones. The Ace Edge 3200 has ceramic feet, very hard to find if not totally impossible, but they never get old, since ceramic cannot be scratched. Though, you have to be careful not to drop the mouse on hard surfaces, because that will probably brake the feet (ceramic does break pretty easy). So, if you are one of those gamers which throw their mice if they lose, don't buy the Edge. In fact, don't buy any expensive mice. Go for the cheaper ones.
Well, as I said before, ceramic doesn't get scratched, it doesn't bend and, if it has an adeqvate shape, it slips very very nice. The only problem is that it breaks pretty fast. Why spend money on teflon or qpad mousefeet, since you don't have any reason to replace ceramic mousefeet ?

Qpad seems to be more reliable from these two.
