Every so often you can do something to your computer to make it a bit better. However, rarely can you take a computer and transform it into something on a whole different level.

GotFrag Hardware is in no way responsible for any damage incurred to you or your property as a result of the implementation of the steps presented in this feature.

Mobile Gaming

Mobile gaming is nothing new; the first laptop was designed in 1979 by William Moggridge of Britain for Grid Systems Corporation. It's not likely he played games on it... but you can bet somebody did shortly after. We have all been able to easily buy a laptop for under $1500 that will play “games”. The difference here is that now you can buy a laptop that actually plays all the games you want to play.

There has always been the problem of upgrading with laptops. In the past, the components that the laptop was comprised of were the same components you would have forever with that laptop. This is no longer the case, which will be explained in further detail in the coming pages.

As far as the general public knows your only solutions to having a mobile gaming rig is to pay $3000-4000 on an Alienware, Voodoo, or Dell XPS/M170. To almost every competitive gamer, paying that much money for a computer just does not make sense, because most of you can build up a desktop for a fraction of the cost. This article will reveal the overlooked laptop, the one that doesn’t have the stylish look of the mentioned laptops, or the fancy, flashing LED’s, but all the power, in most cases more power than a laptop that will burn a $3000 hole in your pocket.

You all know the advantage of having a laptop, the fact that it is a lot more portable than that 20 pound behemoth case that is so close to your heart. Finally, the time has come where you can now have an affordable, portable computer that is more powerful in games than 90% of the desktops out there. Not to mention the cost is nearly the same.

The Inspiron 9300

Inspiron 9300, the name of the humble, yet incredibly upgradeable laptop in which this entire article is based upon. As mentioned earlier, this laptop may not have the fancy paint job or design that the overpriced, so called “gaming laptops” might have. Instead, it has a very subtle look and resembles a Mac Powerbook G4. As far as the display you have the choice between the WUXGA “True Life” screen with a native resolution of 1920x1200 and the WXGA screen with a native resolution of 1440x900. The WXGA screen is highly suggested as it has a lower native resolution and will run every game you play much smoother, also the WUXGA is glossy and reflective which could get annoying. The WXGA screen is better for gaming and is $100 less than the WUXGA screen.

In this article, you will be informed on how to take the absolute most base configuration for the Inspiron9300 and “max it out” with upgrades. You may choose any configuration you’d like, and every possible upgrade path will be explained. The explanation in this article will show you the most cost effective way to have the absolute best gaming laptop available currently. The upgrading process is very user friendly, meaning that you don’t have to go from a “base” config to a “maxed-out laptop” in one shot.
