As you can see, I tested the mouse in games I knew would require all three factors. This would allow me to effectively evaluate the real world results of this mouse in terms of responsiveness, tracking, and friction in many of today's popular games and on three different types of surfaces.
Before I began any tests, I installed the drivers and the software for the mouse. Logitech's SetPoint drivers have received both positive and negative feedback, but in the last few years it seems to have been more positive. Previously, there were issues with performance or the mouse working better without the drivers/software. Now, the software offers a number of options that would otherwise be unavailable.
One such option that the G3 software has is the ability to set up a gaming profile for the mouse and for that profile to load when any game is detected. For instance, the software recognizes that a game has been launched and loads a profile containing sensitivity settings that would otherwise be default. This is nice, as when you exit the game, the mouse goes back to normal operation. To some this may be a gimmick; to others this may be useful depending on the difference in their sensitivity. In any case, I do not consider this a huge negative or positive and not a contributor in either direction to our rating on this mouse.
