FPSLabs Home: Antec Neo HE550 Review

Installation
I put the Neo HE 550 into my Antec P180B. Installation as a whole was a piece of cake.

I mounted the PSU with the 4 supplied screws into the back of my case. I left the cables off on installation as I planned on running the cables separately and plugging them in as I needed them. This made wiring the cables nearly effortless. If it weren’t for the dual chamber design of the P180B the wiring of the detachable cables would have been easier than shaGuar head shotting Big Al. It allowed for me to reverse-wire cables so to speak. I plugged them in to the component then ran them back through the case to the PSU and plugged them in. Simple eh?

Testing
Reliable and accurate power is a must for any power supply gunning for our recommendation. We are gamers first and foremost here, some of us overclockers, and some of us are just plain ole everyday users. In any scenario, we expect the Neo HE to perform at its rated voltages, under load, overclocked, and even while sitting idle. We will be testing out the following rig with a digital multimeter from Northern Tool & Equipment Co:

Test Setup
  • AMD 3200 Athlon 64
  • Zalman 7000b-aclu
  • 2x1GB PC3200 OCZ EL Platinum
  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
  • BFG 7800GS
  • Creative X-fi XtremeMusic
  • Western Digital 150GB raptor, 400GB WD storage drive
  • 2 optical drives
  • 5 Yate Loon d12sl 120mm fans
