FPSLabs Home: Antec Neo HE550 Review

We are going to test the voltages at the ATX cable where it plugs into the motherboard, and to an available Molex connection to compare readings from different locations under different scenarios on our computer. We do this with the system on by back probing the connections. We ground the multimeter to the case and then plug into the backside of the Molex and ATX connections while the system is in use.

The idle voltages were taken on a fresh start up with Windows XP SP2, with only system processes and Windows services running.

The load readings were taken with mIRC, Outlook 07, Firefox, Diskeeper, utorrent, Counter-Strike: Source, and Windows Media Player all running.

The final readings were taken with the system running at the overclocked settings of:

GPU Stock: 400MHz/1.25GHz | GPU Overclocked: 500MHz/1.45GHz
CPU Stock: 2000MHz | CPU Overclocked: 2350MHz (10x235)

All in all it looks like Antec has built one very reliable power supply. All three rails are very stable even under full loads and overclocks. They all perform within the advertised specifications. Take note that this PSU is rated up to these voltages at 50degrees C and the ambient temperate in my room is only 23dgrees C. Clearly I could have pushed this PSU even further under more harsh temperature conditions.

I should also mention that even under full load, and overclocked, I could barely hear the 80mm fan. I am running near-silent Yate Loon case fans in my super quiet P180B, and the PSU fan was nearly inaudible.
