GotFrag Hardware takes an exclusive look at the latest product from SteelSeries, the SteelKeys 6G. ![]() Manufacturer: SteelSeries Product: SteelKeys 6G Gallery: Click Here Price: $129.99 (unofficial, preorder) At GotFrag Hardware we have had the chance to review a lot of really exciting and diverse products. Nothing more hyped than Intel’s Core 2 Duo, nothing more legendary than Microsoft’s IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. But as a bunch of guys who are, on the most fundamental level, gamers, we aren’t necessary looking for the coolest, biggest, and most popular products. Instead, our quest is in search of the figurative “holy grail” of gaming; the product in its category that will, by all accounts, provide the best experience to gamers. Sure, the IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 may have been this “prophetic” symbol of gaming. Sure, the Logitech G15 keyboard may be the most feature-rich product we have EVER seen. But when it really comes down to it, tons of extra features and massive public acceptance do not make a product the best performer. This philosophy is never more important to uphold than when reviewing gaming peripherals. The latest product from SteelSeries, a company known for its product range and numerous endorsements of professional gaming teams, seems to exude the simplistic and high quality characteristics that made the company famous. The SteelKeys 6G keyboard is, for all intents and purposes, a professional gaming keyboard. SteelKeys 6G It is very rare these days that you find a product that doesn’t have a lot of extra features and fancy buttons and lights that are largely unnecessary but look really cool. Logitech’s G15 keyboard has a ton of extra buttons and a really cool LCD display that can be used for all sorts of applications. Razer’s Copperhead laser mouse sports an on-the-fly resolution toggle that allows you to change the dpi of your mouse without going through the driver interface. All of these extra features are very cool, yes, but the practicality of them is, dare I say, almost non-existent. The SteelKeys 6G represents a radical departure from this trend. Standard key layout and no real features that you wouldn’t find on your basic run-of-the-mill generic keyboard, the 6G defines practicality. Here is a quick rundown of the specifications as related on the SteelSeries website: Specs

"Standard key layout and no real features that you wouldn’t find on your basic run-of-the-mill generic keyboard, the 6G defines practicality."
it is a mechanical keyboard which is better than most of the membrane keyboard on the market
...
u really have to get one and play with it to see the benefits ...
it is a simply amazing keyboard to use... doesn't matter if you are just gaming
or even typing
i think it makes typing faster sumtimes!!
no joke....
should def. try one...
of course the down side is the price... but if u really have that $...
u should give it a go!

Eclipse2 and its alot cheaper then the 6g. And im looking at getting one for my next board.
sorry
God forbit they got a little creative and added some heaphone jacks/sound controll or some USB ports to the side of it.
120 for a gig of memory
10 bucks for a keyboard from the used computer joint
f-that to steelseries 130 dollars
Sound files don't work.
What the hell?
but of course, we are all gamers so if they say its cool, we will all go buy it like friken idiots (hmm makes me remember of a particular soundcard..._
If you have a $130 to blow on a keyboard, go for it if you think it's going to make you better. Fact is it's not and you can get a much cheaper keyboard that will do the same things. Trying to sell a keyboard more than your headsets is ridiculous. The only way i would use one is if i got it for free.

...they only cost $30 or less directly from the source.
If you play CS using the arrow keys, you'll know what I'm talking about.
I can't walk forward and strafe in a direction (shift+uparrow+leftarrow) and pull out a nade (num4 on numpad) without my walk coming 'off' and me running around.
There is no keyboard on the market (Logitech included) that supports this.
the feel of it when you press the keys
are much different then your normal keyboard...
it is "mechanical keyboard"....
and the cost to make the keyboard... is much much more than normal keyboard!!!
#31 i think you're the one that doesnt understand, you're paying too much for a keyboard but thats just my opinion.
I mean compare this to the new razer keyboard thats coming out soon (Tarantula). It supports USB ports as well as headphone jacks on the keyboard. On top of that the keyboard has its own memory so you can disable useless keys such as the windows key without having to install drivers. It will also support anti ghost technology (ability to hit 8 or more keys at once). It basically has everything this keyboard has and more. Most of the features are usefull, although i will admit some are useless. From the looks of it the keyboard wont be full of useless lights either. All for about $99 .
I got this from (Video Review at cnet)

and i hate the small backspace key, i like G15/eclipse backspace and enter button size alot more.
Yummm... IBM PC/AT keyboard with the left function keys... :)
We are well aware that the price of this keyboard is way too high. We said that in the review. We also said that gamers would not be able to get past the $130 price tag.
Since this price is not concrete - you can't even buy the product in America yet - we can't legitamately take a ton of 'points' off for it being too expensive.
What we can do however is give this product an honest review based on our own opinions, because peripheral reviews are purely subjective and, by nature, people are going to disagree. Following our publically posted grading criteria on the left of the page, here:
http://hardware.gotfrag.com/portal/Scoring/ you can see that the score we gave makes sense.
If you disagree with our scoring criteria, then we are and have always been more than willing to hear your suggestions. This site is built by community members around the community members, and disregarding the community's opinion would be nothing short of ignorant.
The fact of the matter is that this is a great keyboard, and giving it a low score based solely upon an unofficial price would be unfair to the people that put their blood sweat and tears into the development of the product, the people that made the review possible, and more importantly the community who may very well base a purchasing decision off of the review.
We are very truly sorry that some of you disaggree with the review.

this is the best keyboard on the market.
9.8 is fair.
i wouldnt buy it because of the price but IT IS THE BEST ON THE MARKET!
price is unofficial and it's not even out yet.
worth that?
I have a logitech Ultra-X keyboard. I can count about 8 key presses in CS. Like this keyboard it is only PS/2 and it is not membrane based. (It used to retail for over $100 as part of a DiNovo Logitech package, but if you buy it OEM its super cheap) I found mine for $10 dollars from Outletpc.com
It is a superslim, laptop-like keys, full-size keyboard. To me it looks far more professional than the 6G and takes the same amount of key presses. Another upside is that its laptop keys, you type way way faster than in a regular keybaord because of the smaller distance needed to be pressed down on each key.
