FPSLabs Home: Fatal1ty 2020 review

In this user submitted review, GotFrag community member Javier "pnd" Ruiz takes a close look at the Fatal1ty Profess1onal Series Laser Mouse. Does it suffer from the same ailments as the Fatal1ty 1010? Read on to find out!

Category: Mice
Manufacturer: Creative Labs
Product: Fatal1ty Pro Series Laser Mouse (2020)

Price: $59.99

Creative Labs has been producing mice for a long time, however the Fatal1ty series of gaming mice has been their first serious approach to the gaming mice market. With the release of the Fatal1ty 1010 Optical Gaming Mouse in January of 2006, Creative Labs found their product being evaluated by many different types of gamers who have always been loyal to Logitech, Razer, and Microsoft when it comes to their choice of gaming peripherals.

The 1010 mouse was unusual in its shape, having no particular style to its looks and overpowered by the logos of the Jonathan Wendel’s "Fatal1ty" branding name. However, gaming websites still believed that if the product was designed with the vision of a top gamer then there had to be something more to it under its unusual looks.

Most reviews of the 1010 concluded in the same: in theory, the mouse was a very solid approach to fulfilling the performance needs of a certain type of gamers. It had a shape that offered a lot of control and comfort as well as customizability with its optional weight system. Unfortunately, the theory was not well executed as the software and the hardware were plagued with issues: The USB polling rate had inconsistencies that caused the pointer to not register smoothly at default settings. The main buttons were too hard to press while the 3rd button that goes under the ring finger was very easy to press and would accidentally click when not needed to, and the side button was simply too hard to press. Finally, the USB cord was just too short for most users.

Needless to say, it must have been a big learning experience for Creative. It seems Creative decided to not release the Laser version of the series without going back to the drawing board to try and get things right this time. More than 6 months after its initial projected release, they finally launched a reworked version of the mouse under a new name, the Fatal1ty Pro Series Laser Gaming Mouse (which for short we will call it the "2020," its original name).

The 1010 worked pretty well after I took super glue and wd40 to it.
I wonder why it just blew up randomly yesterday.
Oh well, perfect timing.

I really like all the improvements they made to the mouse. The only gripe I have is that they decided to use a laser engine instead of optical which causes skipping like stated. I have used the optical version before and I easily found it to be the most practical and comfortable design for gaming. I would have purchased this product if it would have been optical or they somehow fix the skipping. O well.

I doubt it skips if you use a proper mouse surface. Try a 5L. Stay away from glass.

It doesn't skip under regular use. I can make it skip but it really does not affect me in game at all. I made a big deal of it in the review, but it really isn't bad at all.

looks pretty stupid ~

This review is completely unfair. This is a professional gaming mouse used by a gaming god (apparently), and this pansy reviewer rambles about how it looks, or the logos? Who gives a ..? We need to know how good it is in games; not whether it goes well with my red shirt, or whether it will enhance my inner spirit by being visually attractive.... REALLY!!! Nobody rambles about formula-1 cars not being pretty, because they're meant to do one thing only - GO FAST... So why is half of this review keeps negatively referring to the shape. All we need to know is whether the shape works or not. And whether I'm going to get more frags using this rather some MS explorer.

great mouse this is i use it on 400dpi sens 2 in cs source or 1.6

no problems with it at all feels good to the hand never mind the looks of it its the performance you want.

only negative thing i could give it is the side button its in a rather bad place in my opinion any way, its to far back where my thumb rests on side i cant just press it i have to bend my thumb back to touch it down. but yeah apart from that its a great mouse
