I asked about their rationale on this recent decision to sell, why it was happening and what they hoped to gain out of this alignment. Ravi was casual and there was not a concern in the world. This leads me to believe that he is very confident in the move that they made and that it was the best thing they could have done for Voodoo. His answer was simple: Voodoo's ideas and innovations were too large to manifest at their current capacity. With HP, they have access to one of the largest research companies in the world. HP has an entire campus full of scientists and engineers dedicated to further their prowess and lead in all the industries they currently have a hand in and even those they don't. This campus pumps out an average of 16 innovative patents every day. In addition, a very little known fact is that HP is the leading provider of gaming infrastructure. They make up the infrastructure for many of today's leading MMO's. Strategically, this was the best move both companies could make. HP has had a desire to enter the gaming market for quite some time, but they didn't want to just be a flash in the pan, they wanted to enter with something to show. This is where Voodoo comes into play for HP. Rahul and Ravi are entering HP as the Chief Technologist and Director of Strategy in charge of HP's gaming endeavors, respectively. As proven leaders in this market, we can expect to see some serious moves on HP's part into the gaming space. All in all, this deal is definitely one that will benefit both parties equally. HP is gaining some serious experience and leadership muscle in the gaming space and Voodoo is gaining an equal amount of muscle in terms of R&D capabilities, facilities, and more. Look for big innovations and powerful products from both these companies. Page:
