The Razer DeathAdder is the latest from one of the best known peripheral companies in the serious gaming market. Let's see how it stacks up.
Manufacturer: Razer Product: DeathAdder Gallery: Click Here Price: $44.90 One of the things we enjoy most about reviewing hardware and talking to our readers is when we, the media, can help a product receive more attention. For years, Razer has made mice that grabbed the attention of a gaming niche and gained the reputation of making mice that were either loved or hated. Once a gamer had used a Razer mouse, they either swore by the company or never considered them again. In the last two years, Razer has expanded their product line into keyboards, audio cards, headsets, and even speakers. Reviewers for the last half of the decade have been begging Razer to make a mouse to fit the rest of world; players who liked to grab the mouse and not push it with their fingertips. Razer has heard the cry. For this project they called in the big guns: Microsoft. As you all very well know, Microsoft created the world’s most popular gaming mouse, so who's better to team up with? In their joint effort, two mice emerged: The Microsoft Habu and The Razer DeathAdder. The product is secure and safe within the plastic housing. The manual, driver CD, and such are tucked neatly in back. All in all, I give props to the guy who designed this and other Razer packaging for creating an excellent balance in both form and function. I know this all sounds stupid, but remember the last time you bought a product and not only was the packaging obnoxious, but impossible to work with? This probably deterred from the entire experience of purchasing the item. Razer, much like Apple, understands that the packaging is part of the experience of owning one of their products. |

If I had to buy a mouse, I would definitely consider this one, over the habu, which looks cheaper and less sturdy.
Oh btw, you forgot to put the link in the first paragraph ;)
nice review, I'm very happy that GFhardware are releasing more and more reviews, the site's doing quite good ! (And I'm still on it at 4:20 in the morning uhghh)
Keep on the good work !
edit: i dont like how easily the mousewheel spins. if you use it in cs to jump or duck you might find yourself randomly jumping or ducking. it has messed me up in many situations. that's why i switched back to my mx518, the mousewheel. go figure eh?
Almost woke up my parents I was laughing so hard.
There are just far too many features and criteria on which to judge gaming peripherals to consider any review of them completely objective or definitive. Personal preference plays an immeasurably large roll, so in order to know if a gaming peripheral is right for you, you should not only read reviews, but go out and test it for yourself. You bring up a good point, thanks.
EDIT: i found on the 3 i tested that when i held down the right mouse button and scrolled the wheel it rubbed on the button casing. And offering the ability to upgrade firmware gives razer the option of selling mice that need updating. There's no excuse for the product not working perfect out of the box.
Why pay extra for LED and packaging? Stick to the MXs and Microsofts...
Maybe I'll try this one in the future, I've developed a liking for razer :P
9.5 out of 10
They didnt copy off the 3.0's shap well enough. The deathadder is too high, and not wide enough - and mouse1 and 2 are far too Razer'ish.
Why o' why in the world would they not just implant there sicksick optical engine in the most beloved mouse shape in the history of gaming?
[IMO]
GF creditability went out the window after reading this.
no1 mentioned the excessive install of drivers to get this mouse working stable at LAN. not a huge CON but not all LANS let u install things.
V3 > deathadder - for this
the wiring still doesnt seem to be fixed like the copperhead (ie. if u rage alot then expect it to cut out and cut back in after about a month
once again any mouse > deathadder -for this
no catridge disc for weight
g5 > deathadder -for this
NOTHING EVER IS A PERFECT 10.
Anyway the 3.0/Deathadder are made for people with smaller hands, mice like mx518 are for people with bigger hands the palm area on those mouses are BIGGER/higher.
This mouse is really accurate you could say its like a 3.0 on steroids because of its similar shape and better engine. I've been using it since it came out no problems yet :)
#25 I hate to say it, but I have had this mouse for quite some time. It review being published was delayed with many of the things going on around GotFrag. Since I first received this mouse, quite some time ago, I have not installed drivers and it has worked flawlessly. In fact, the only reason I installed drivers and upgraded the firmware was to be able to review said drivers for this review. So I am not sure what you mean by unstable, but I have been gaming with this mouse for months without drivers and it has worked without a hitch.
Even without a weight cartridge, I still believe in the quality of this mouse. However, you raise a good point. Until we are able to have our community submit their own ratings alongside our review, we must take into account what you have to say. Your con on this topic and a rating change has occurred because of it.
As far as any wiring issue, I have noticed no problems whatsoever and I believe it to be fixed.
#26 I have had many Logitech, Microsoft and Razer products. The Razer products have all lasted as long as the other companies. Sorry, but I would have to disagree with you on this.
edit: #37, what are you asking in, "how does it compare"? shape and style? playing?
if you're a logitech user this mouse will feel odd and it will likely be "too small" for someone who has used MX series for a while. if you've not used the logitech series this mouse will probably be less uncomfortable than that of the MX series.
I haven't tried out the Deathadder yet, but my friend is ordering one, and will be away for two weeks, so i'll be able to test it out for him, I'll be sure to give my input on it.
That honestly isn't the case, I have smooth/oily hands and it slips and it is quite annoying
edit
finally
I have this mouse, and its lying in my drawer.
The material razer builds their mice from, teh smooth plastic becomes a major pain in the behind as soon as ur hand sweats abit. As long as u have dry hands its great, but 1 drop of sweat and you loose the feel of the mouse completely
And as to why its in the drawer - shape doesnt feel right, mainly because, unlike the 3.0, on the DA the right side of the mouse, where the ring finger is isnt perpendicular to the table, but is sloped. So when i have to lift the mouse i feel it kind of slipping from my hand, so when i put it down again i have to readjust grip.
Razer mice = gamecube controllers of the PC world
