So they provided the parts and I have a soldering gun that was lonely. I busted out some basic tools and got to performing a pretty simple modification. Screwdriver, soldering iron, and a wheel of solder was all I needed for the entire modification. Because in reality, there are only a few different things you can do to mod this keyboard and they include changing the housing, switching out LEDs, or switching out keycaps. All in all, not that amazing on paper, but the right combination of these modifications can lead to some pretty cool results. For instance in my case, I replaced the escape key with a skull and crossbones (free with every keyboard), replaced the windows key with a lady’s figure, replaced the WASD keys with new ones that have arrows on them, and replaced the caps lock key that makes the indicator light a skull and crossbones. These small changes gave a personal feeling to the keyboard and the arrow keys on the WASD marks me as a gamer when anyone sees my keyboard. “Oh wow, it screams ‘no life!’” Oh, but I didn’t stop there. I proceeded to switch out the blue translucent housing for the clear one they sent me. Lastly, I switched out of the LEDs with basic de-soldering and soldering of the new green ones. Once I was finished I had green WASD keys and four green LEDs on the left, right, and front borders, with two blue LEDs on the back border giving a nice ground effect all the way around. I had two of the green LEDs break from the package, so I used two of the blue LEDs that I removed from the WASD keys and added them to the top border, which left me with one extra green LED that I placed under the Windows key in the top right. All-in-all it was an easy process that maybe took me a couple of hours due to taking my time and being careful. I ended up pleased and would be happy to call it my own. Value The Deck keyboard comes at a price. A price of approximately $120 to be more specific. Now this isn’t the most expensive keyboard we have reviewed, but I would honestly say that as far as high-end input devices go, this keyboard at least justifies its price. This keyboard goes beyond what the other expensive keyboards do. Let’s break it down. |
