FPSLabs Home: Kingston HyperX DDR2 800MHz CAS3 Review

Conclusion
All in all, Kingston makes a great entrance here at FPSLabs. These 3-3-3-10 HyperX sticks at 800MHz are fast, fast, fast. CAS latency 3 really seems to be the sweet spot. Out of the box performance is faster than our even our current favorite Crucial sticks. The question we have to ask is are the sticks worth it? The BallistiX comes in around $160 right now while the HyperX from Kingston is around $200. That is a $40 dollar price difference and the BallistiX gives better performance when overclocked. For those of you who don’t overclock, the HyperX provides the fastest install-and-play performance we have seen to date.

Overall it was a joy reviewing these sticks. We do wish we could have upped the speeds a bit at stock timings, but it seems they are tuned to their limits already. The sticks themselves look fantastic with the racecar blue finish and they maintain good temperatures, being only warm to the touch at stock speeds. Performance is top notch and you couldn’t go wrong throwing, or better yet installing, these HyperX sticks in your machine. If you aren’t in to overclocking your RAM or system, you won’t get much better than these CAS latency 3 sticks from Kingston.

Pros
+ Incredible timings; the fastest we have ever tested
+ Best stock performance we have seen here at FPSLabs
+ Sharp style and classy look
+ Great price to performance ratio at stock speeds
Cons
- Price to performance ratio for overclockers may not be in line with other top sticks
- So finely tuned already that there isn’t a lot of room for overclocking
Rating
9.4 out of 10

If these HyperX sticks were about $40 cheaper they would easily come close to the 9.8 the BallistiX memory received a while back. The fact that many of our readers like to tinker and overclock takes these sticks down a slight peg, as these aren’t the best choice for that. But for our other readers who just want RAM to run, and run fast, this Kingston kit excels.
