Dell has upgraded the m1710 with new looks, parts, and features. The beast was announced at DigitalLife 2007.
Not too long ago, we reviewed Dell's m1710 gaming laptop and we decided that despite its massiveness, it was a fantastic gaming laptop.  This type of laptop specifically is known as a desktop replacement and meant to be your entire system on the go.  Companies like Sager have been here awhile, but new comers include the likes of Toshiba, and Dell is somewhere between the two.  The m1710 was a new age of desktop replacements and had the option of adding in a Blu-ray drive.

The latest in Dell's mammoth line of XPS desktop replacements is the XPS m1730 and they have made some improvements.  First off, here are the specs:

- Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 at 2.20GHz
- 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 Memory
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT w/ SLI Technology and DirectX 10 Support
- 200GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
- 17" HD Widescreen (1920x1200)
- AGEIA PhysX mobile processor
- GamePanel display (thing Logitech G15 on a laptop)
- Backlit keyboard

The first thought is there is some updated hardware.  The m1710 we reviewed had the same screen and resolution, the same amount and speed of RAM, and slightly upgraded components elsewhere.  You are looking at double the HDD space, an 8700M instead of a 7950GTX, and a T7700 instead of a T7600G.  However, you also are gaining DirectX 10 support, a built-in PhysX card, a backlit keyboard and the GamePanel functionality.
