PC Magazine's choices for their fancy trophies and our choices for our gaming fetish.

Every year at the end of the show, PC Magazine awards their "Best of Show" trophies in multiple categories. This year Gateway claimed two of those trophies with their Gateway One securing the "Best PC" awards and the overall "Best of Show". This is quite a feat for a company that has been relatively quiet in the past year. The HP/Voodoo Blackbird 002 won for "Best Gaming Hardware" and Guitar Hero 3 won a trophy for "Best Game".

Our choices and categories differ a bit, but here they are:

Best of Show - Hardware Innovator: Novint Falcon

Congratulations to those over at Novint for doing something that is completely original and fantastic to experience. I can only hope that this baby takes off and really captures an audience.

Best of Show - Software Innovator: AGEIA PhysX SDK

What some of you may not know is that AGEIA also has a solid physics SDK that developers are using much like they have used Havok in the past. What's more is that AGEIA provides this SDK including support for FREE to the developers. This software brings physics enhancements with and without their PhysX processor, but of course is grossly enhanced when a PhysX processor is employed.

Best of Show - Gaming Laptop: Dell M1730

Improving on an already solid machine is pretty hard to do, but Dell pulled it off with ease. Featuring a backlit keyboard, secondary screen, beefed up hardware, the first mobile PhysX processor and all new aesthetics, the M1730 was dressed to kill. I look forward to testing this baby soon.

Best of Show - Gaming Desktop: HP/Voodoo Blackbird 002

This baby is magnificent to behold and exemplifies near-perfect industrial design. It is a system that will leave you short of words when speaking about form meeting function. Stay tuned on a thorough lab inspection of this system very soon.

Best of Show - Game: Guitar Hero 3

This game is going to rock just as much as its predecessors, if not more.

Best of Show - Best Booth: Gibson

This could be a little biased as I am a guitar player and nurse a music addiction, but Gibson allowed anyone and everyone to come by and enjoy playing some of the finest guitars ever made. Gibson is a defining brand in the guitar world and they had a fantastic interactive booth with headphones, Pods, and beautiful guitars to sit down and play.

Best of Show - Overall: Gateway XHD3000

This was an outstanding product in not only size, but quality and performance as well. To have a 30" monitor with such an expansive resolution while maintaining a low response rate of 6ms is a marvel. To take it a step further they included plenty of inputs, features like the PIP transparency and a clean, easy to use menu system - not to mention the 8 speaker audio bar below the screen. This is an all around magnificent product.
